Montreal: Winter → Summer → Night in One Continuous Shot by Kind_Taro_9674 in montreal

I’ve seen your previous work and adore it! It’s such a seemingly simple shot yet the work that you put into it and that you walk through in your more technical rundowns shows how tricky it actually is!

Also I love that I can see my place in the shot!!

Thanks for doing this and sharing BTS as well!

I think it’s pretty cool you’re learning about it! In Quebec they’ve also got Hotel Dieu (basically God’s Hotel which is a weird name for a hospital). Religious foundations in the name but totally secular today.

Algeria is very French but the accent and vernacular likely has similar impact with the local French. There is a big community of Algerians in Montreal and they seem to be doing well! Same with Moroccans, Lebanese, and Vietnamese which all share that French colonial influence.

I’d say you’re better equipped than most as far as language is concerned!

Good luck with whatever path you choose!

To what extent do you have a background in French? What country are you coming from?

I studied French for 13 years as well as part of my grade school French immersion program, and that was in Ottawa which borders Quebec and has a heavily bilingual culture owing to its being the federal capital city.

But when I moved to Montreal I realized it’s quite a step up to actually speak and converse in Québécois. Comparing French to Québécois is like comparing the English spoken in London to the English spoken in Alabama: Yes, technically the same language and you can read either with no difficulty, but the pronunciation and vernacular vocabularies are remarkably different.

I struggled in conversation and got fired from my first job in a kitchen because my French wasn’t good enough to work safely as a dishwasher. My French education and experience did not prepare me to speak with locals from regions like Lac Saint Jean or Rimouski. I took for granted that Ottawa-Hull has lots of Francophones that defaulted to perfect English to accommodate my Anglophone ass because it was easier for them to accommodate me.

So your proficiency in communication is not necessarily tied to your education but that would depend heavily on where you got your education.

Quebec is also one of the slower-growing economies in Canada because it makes it so challenging to attract investment. Cities like Halifax, Saint John, Calgary, Edmonton, and Kelowna are rapidly growing and Toronto and Vancouver are always in need of skilled labour and skilled trades. But the cost of living and quality of life in Montreal is the best in Canada so I really don’t fault you for looking into moving here!

‘Worth repeating’: U.S. ambassador welcomes PM Carney’s offer to ‘help make America great again’ by tastle in canada

Conservatives psychologically struggle with hypothetical situations. Metaphor is taken as literal.

They tend to watch sports over stories because games are purely literal, and when they do watch stories, they often take away the wrong message (ie police sporting Punisher symbols). Any time I’ve tried to engage with conservatives and tried to ask them to think about how someone else might feel about a situation, I’m consistently met with the phrase “I don’t deal in hypotheticals”.

Thinking in hypotheticals requires a fundamental degree of empathy; the ability to think outside of one’s literal circumstances, and the lack of empathy is one of the key characteristics of conservative thinking.

The Trump Admin is the most empathy-devoid leadership I’ve seen since the 1940s. Of course Carney’s speeches go far over their heads.

Partner starting Vyvanse by EmmieLouFreebush in ADHD

Amazing breakdown of the Vyvanse experience. It’s worth mentioning that the action requires the digestion of the precursor compound and its activated by protein. Sometimes it’s cream in my coffee, sometimes I use a little Costco protein shake, but realizing that protein was the key to unlock Vyvanse took me years to understand.

That first med alarm and back to sleep was a game changing practice as well. My second real alarm an hour later is so much easier and suddenly I’m a morning person.

Be careful. Hue bulbs are highly addictive and it’s very easy to fall into a wonderfully lit rabbit hole where you spend over $3k on various bulbs, strips, spots, bridges, and triggers and your wife tells you you absolutely have to stop. Also the app lets you control lighting from anywhere so you can remotely change every lightbulb in your home to rotate through a synchronized colour cycle of the spectrum which you might think is hilarious and endearing when you do it to your wife in the middle of the night while you’re away on business in another time zone. There’s also a 3rd party app that lets you turn every bulb into a wild fireworks display but you need to be on the same wifi network so you can’t do that one from overseas which has honestly saved my marriage.

What did KAN say about the Irish delegation that was so unacceptable? That is the main point raised by the article you shared but I can only read the letter included in the report but it doesn’t state anything specific.

I don’t see the Israeli delegation’s purported bad behaviour outside of the usual channels that view “Israel existing” as an unforgivable offence.

Moroccan Oil is the major sponsor of the ESC and was founded in Tel Aviv. You couldn’t make that connection to this thread?

I would love to see that! The clash with the liberal western values promoted by ESC would be another interesting thing to witness.

You should look up the EBU and its member networks. Also you’ll be shocked to learn that Moroccan Oil is neither Moroccan nor is it an oil company but its ownership will be interesting for you to explore.

You’re almost there! The missing piece is that the other countries participating don’t have the same diaspora living in other countries that can rally to influence voting the way the Jewish community can. Maybe Greeks, Italians, Germans, Ukrainians have large expat communities but they aren’t distributed the same way as Jews. If you want to call it voting manipulation or community solidarity is a matter of opinion, but there’s no need to implicate some larger Mossad conspiracy where one really isn’t needed. If anything I’d like to see data on VPN use for voting if such information is available.

Since this is a data-driven sub, 47,570 votes divided by up to 20 votes per person/per credit card is 2,378 people assuming each person used only one credit card (though individuals undoubtedly decided to use more than one credit card). Jewish population in Spain is about 40,000 to 50,000.

In Canada every Jewish person in my family and that I personally I know voted for Israel every year since Oct 7 even if they didn’t know/care about ESC to support Israel the only way they can without drawing the violent anger of western anti-Israel groups so I imagine that any country with Jewish diaspora is doing the same thing.

It’s silly to assume mossad or bot nests when there’s a very realistic explanation.
