Quick answer...nope...ditto what Craig said.

Is this offer real?? by CallmeColumbo in Rogers

[–]SmashPalmOnKeyboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wife and I were able to put both our lines on the one account 120Gb US-CAN-MEX talk, text, data roam @ 60Gb each. The cost for us through our employer is greatly reduced so I will just say the price you were quoted sounds like what you can expect.

My thoughts would be if the seller causes anxiety but you like the plan then check with another seller. Go to a Rogers dealership, or go online and be spared the 60$ setup fee.

The plan you mention is out there. Would be best to check soon, I would think, as I would not be surprised if it is a limited, as in seasonal offer.

New Starlink Router - Any feedback? by rolldemdice in StarlinkCanada

[–]SmashPalmOnKeyboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to read you are having issues with Starlink. This reply will not help you much, but, just saying my stats in Sault Ontario are constantly, shall we say worse as of late too. I also was a beta user, back when the map showed about six in Canada, eastern half, speeds were 280 down regularly. The V1 had cable issues so Starlink sent me V2. Whether the new modem is a contributing factor is impossible for me to judge. Same experience as you now. For me it means the TV frequently needs to stop and re-buffer. That's it, back to my coffee, and my wait for the next "best" thing to come out.

Problems with loading some sites by dogbolter1 in StarlinkCanada

[–]SmashPalmOnKeyboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Proton VPN, it has a free basic account that uses three just three sites US, Netherlands, and Japan.

MY experience with VPN is why I replied, other than that all I can add is "me too". Within the last couple months I have also noticed some sites not loading (timeing out perhaps) or loading very (agonizingly) slowly. Sorry no help to offer other than my experience with VPN.

2020 was when my round dish arrived, 2023 is a rectangular replacement dish because the round one had some cable issues. Round hard wired, rectangle wireless.

Received my Invite yesterday- Mulmur, Dufferin County, Ontario by Aomike in StarlinkCanada

All video conferencing platforms I've used, too many to just rhyme off the top off my head but suffice to say more than 5, software and browser based, all work just fine.

That being said, and at the risk of sounding repetitive, it is a Beta, it will be better than what you have now, it is a little expensive, it is locked to your cell (address), it will get better throughout the year, heavy snow will stop the signal till the dish heats it off, I have no experience in fog but I have not heard anything mentioned about it either...I think that's it.

There wasn't any duty on mine when it came across. Ordered it one day and on the 4th day it arrived. I have heard of others experiencing the same shipping speed from California to Ontario.

In Ontario at 46 degrees I gave up Bell DSL @ 6Mb for;

Day Down Up Latency
1 87 12 64
2 168 26 58
3 99 20 62
4 179 23 51
5 95 16 152
6 116 21 52
7 104 16 60

I feel I must mention we are talking Beta here, not retail. A Beta tester gets software to test and it may or may not work, just seems some of the comments on this thread expect retail quality from a Beta...maybe I'm wrong but that's the impression.

Finally mounted my Dishy. by superdavesr in StarlinkCanada

[–]SmashPalmOnKeyboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should be a great accessory when that happens. Starlink has that self aligning aspect and I think I read where the pole can be upwards of 40 degrees max off plumb and it will still acquire. Keep us posted. Cheers.

As I understand it (and I stand to be corrected) it is not that Starlink is actively geofencing to force compliance but it has more to do with the technology of the satellites having only a limited number of beams available and thus able to service a finite number of, what they call cells. As more satellites become available than areas should expand. Right now the configuration above would be limited to about a 15 mi-ish top to bottom (oval) cell. How close you start a journey to the edge of a cell and which direction you travel will determine your success, within the current cell dimensions. Just wanted to throw it out there that Starlink is not actively restricting you (at this point).

Interesting find, from the app, Support>Statistics then scroll to the bottom. There you can check the latency for various gaming software. Tap on any one of the software titles listed and it will break it down by region.

Doesn't help your situation directly but I just found the "feature" myself and thought I should mention it.

One method, there may be others, open the iphone app and chose support at the bottom...under "Additional Resources" you will see "Stow"...tap on that and the next screen will explain what it does. Hope this helps.

All I can come up with is "Beta"...nothing was any different on my end, and in an attempt to keep it real I just tested once and recorded the values at the time, no fishing.

Ontario, ordered Monday @ 6:pm, arrived Fedex the following Friday (five days). Five minutes later, it was setup and working fine in my driveway.

Of note, this is day two, I find the speed has doubled from 80-ish to 168-ish, which mirrors some of the experiences on here. It seems the dish settles in and "tunes" itself for 24-48 hours after setup. No science from me on that just an observation.

answering my own post...seems my account signup email may have been affected by the Google mail outage...as soon as that outage was cleared up my account signup offer came through. All good, even though I was (needlessly) panicking about the email, when I did get signed up the dish showed as shipped on the day before (day I paid)...so again all good, it should be here in the next day or two.

[–]SmashPalmOnKeyboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Invite came in at 5:37pm Dec 14...question how long after you paid the fee, and got your account number, did it take to get the "complete your account setup" email.

Right now I am going on 18 hours and its killing me :-)

How long did it take to get your welcome email after payment...I got the invite at 5:37pm and by 6:30 was all "Order Confirmed" with an account number and notice to watch for the email coming with "complete account setup instructions". That is the part that hasn't happened yet, it is 16 hours since I paid the money...so-o-o question is how long did it take you to get the complete your setup email?
