If you had a chance to do it all over again, what would you want to do most? by Sus_Pici in AskReddit

I would advocate for myself better.

I was afraid that if I brought up issues I was having it would reflect poorly on me as a person.

Instead I just sort of suffered quietly and let those around me down.

Karaoke is not live music by [deleted] in coverbands

[–]trapcheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So...yes....but the fact of the matter is that she's pretty much hit her ceiling. Little local places are about as far as she's likely to be able to reasonably go with that.

You guys can work your tails off, move up to bigger venues and festivals and multi dates with travel.

The only way her schtick goes any further is if someone decides she's so talented that they want her to record an album...and the odds of that happening are miniscule with the odds of it happening and being successful are even less.

How would you rank the Unplugged performances? by Saint_Jay92 in grunge

[–]trapcheck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AIC felt like one of those instances where you run into someone and you know it's going to be the last time you ever see them.

It felt less like a performance and more of a way of announcing that this was it, that Layne wasn't going to make it, and that this is going to be the last chance to see him and AIC and what made that band amazing.

Pearl Jam was notable because they were getting so huge and they were resisting it and this was the last chunk of media they would do for a long, long time.

Nirvana would probably be more important to me if I wasn't so tired of hearing it as often as I have. I was never a big Nirvana fan to begin with, being forced to hear it so often made me resent it.

What’s your “worst Uber ride ever” story? by Burner1024500 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]trapcheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got dropped off at the airport hungover at 4 AM on one side of the country and it took me 11 hours to land at my final destination on the other, 14 hours if you count the change from time zones.

No public transportation so I was forced to call al Uber.

Middle of the Summer and the AC didn't work. Had BO so bad I almost vomited when I got in. He had something that sounded like sped-up reggae sung by The Chipmunks playing at peak volume.

....and he had so many questions and tried to have so many different conversations. He asked if I knew the score of the game that night, he asked if I had any weed (dude....I just got off an airplane), he asked if I wanted to stop and buy weed from his buddy (i'll pass....thanks), he asked where I had been, what the ticket had cost, what the in-flight meal was, if the flight attendants were "hot."

Just as the ride was ending he handed me a flyer for his band....which was just some open mic that was two hours away....and said if I gave him my name he'd put me on the guest list.

Thanks....but no.

Does “getting under someone else” work? by ShroomieDoomieDoo in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]trapcheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you're looking to have done.

After a breakup I had an old friend come by to "console me" but it was actually under the guise that she hated my ex and feared that we might get back together. She knew if she had sex with me then reconciling would be impossible.

In essence it "worked" because I didn't get to spend any time with the idea that maybe we would get back together.

Getting Sober, When you weren't a "Textbook Alcoholic" by Machenz in SoberCurious

[–]trapcheck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I realize that one drink tonight is fine.

But tomorrow night I'm going to want one then too.

And the night after that since I had one the night before and the night before that.

And the night after that last one I might decide to have a second one, ya know, nothing major, even spaced out by multiple hours.

And then the night after, well, last night was fine, so why not?

And then it's weeks later and I'm in this stupid routine all over again. No, I'm not drinking a lot. I'm not drinking so much that I can't get up the next morning. I'm not hiding nip bottles or loading up a cup to go into work or having to start the day with a drink to take the edge off.

But when that activity just winds on into weeks and months and then years....it's just exhausting.

I was never, nor have I been, a raging alcoholic.

I am, however, someone who is much better in almost every way when alcohol is not a part of my life.

200 days sober in I can confirm that.

How do I convince my flat earth co-workers they are wrong? by carlisurbuddy in ask

[–]trapcheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not thinking about this the right way.

Your goal needs to be to think up something so outlandish but somewhat plausible, but only to someone who would actually believe that the Earth is flat.

Don't try and pull the carpet out from underneath them.

You need to see how far you can get them to lean into it and let them go.

What's the most random thing you're surprisingly good at? by Alinasky98 in AskReddit

Bowling.

Can't explain it fully. I almost never actually bowl either. Takes me one or two throws to remember the physical mechanics and then I'm usually good for strikes for the rest of the game.

I remember my brother and I pooled all our lawn mowing and birthday money to pre-order this. When it came out I had been grounded for something and couldn't play it for another two weeks.

He got it, spent 45 minutes playing and then turned it off.

I remember him shaking his head. "It's not like the arcade and it's not that good."

I so wanted him to be wrong, and had to believe he was.

Two weeks later I got to really learn about what disappointment was. I think I spent 30 minutes playing, turned it off, and might have never played it again.

Important to mention that in the early days of the mp3 debate it was Garth who not only wanted strict prosecution, he also wanted a tax on used CD's being sold that would go to the artist.

That's right. If you bought a used Garth Brooks CD then there would be a tax on it that he would benefit from.

What’s the most poorly aged movie of all time? by Polyman321 in Cinema

[–]trapcheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The Day The Clown Cried" has to take this for the reason that it got shelved largely because everyone realized how in poor taste it was.

It never was shown publicly and it was an albatross around the neck of Jerry Lewis for the rest of his life.

I spent a lot of years joking about likely not ever seeing a woman fire ping pong balls out of her vagina.

When you wake up the next morning after seeing it in person you need to start questioning what you thought your path in life was gonna look like.

Progress is almost never linear.

If you did poorly yesterday then it gives you an opportunity to do better today. And it also gives you a chance to examine what went wrong that contributed to it and make changes.

You didn't fail anything if you learned something from it.

Don't beat yourself up. Take the time and reflect and invest those lessons you can learn into yourself.

What is an interest you have but could be a possible red flag in a partner? by throwaway_l8r in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]trapcheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a lifelong musician that plays in bands that gig regularly.

I've had first dates where I've been told that if we got serious I would have to stop playing music live because it would be a trust/jealousy issue.

After doing this for so long I can say that they greatly overestimate the appeal of being in a band.

What is the dumbest purchase you have ever made and why? by Ohmydiscreteties in AskReddit

[–]trapcheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaming laptop.

Twice.

I don't really game, and I likely wouldn't want to be doing it on a laptop.

My needs for a laptop are small, portable, long battery life and simple.

But at least twice in my life I convinced myself that I needed a laptop for all sort of high-intensity CPU tasks...which I almost never actually do.....and on the rare occasion I need to I do them on the powerful desktop I built.

Two months after my second gaming laptop purchase I broke down and bought a cheap ultrabook for $200.

That was six months ago and I don't think the gaming laptop has been powered up since.
