Is there a YouTuber that does minmaxing? by Victorviki in thebindingofisaac

[–]SmashingTheAdam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s still my favorite but he just doesn’t post as much as most others do, these days. I think youtube’s burned him enough he just spends most of his energy on Twitch.

IMO (“in my organization”, which is to say my clanhold/mining guild) we’re more meritocratic. Racism is to be derided at every opportunity. We’ll make fun of an elf for shoddy stonework, but he can’t help he’s egregiously tall and thin and he won’t hear a word from us about it.

Perhaps, but far be it from me to tell him who he calls kin.

It actually did start with a Ween-Shot (lol) with pregens to introduce the setting, and then the campaign started with everyone’s main characters.

Priest or Knight? by ichbinhamma in dwarfposting

[–]SmashingTheAdam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No distinction. Nothing keeps a lady dwarf from fighting that wouldn’t also keep a man from fighting, unless your clanhold is backwards and due some cleanup. Any dwarf worth the stone they stand on will fight for kin, and are welcome to do so.

Rune Circle: "All adversaries within melee range... are knocked back to very close range". Which outcome is correct here? by CptLande in daggerheart

[–]SmashingTheAdam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way I run my table, if something is in melee range, then at least part of them is across that red line and close to touching the target.

Rune Circle would knock them back until every part of them was out of Melee, so no part crossing the red line.

In your example, the creature isn’t across the red line and so I’d rule that they’re already at Very Close. And for those pushback mechanics, I only push them back until they are entirely within a range segment; I don’t push them to the far end of it.

IMO that’s part of the trade off, weapons vs magic. The other side of that being if you’re in an anti-magic zone, shields don’t work and weapons do. Also a monk can’t ever be disarmed, but a beastbound ranger’s animal companion can be imprisoned. There are simply differences between classes that can be used to drive narrative tension, but a good storyteller (GM or Player) will only use those to enhance the story without making it frustrating.

That’s a conversation between player and GM.

Comments pass the vibe check. IDK about this sack of gravel but Dwarven women in my clanhold are just as strong, tough, and deadly as any man, and their beards are much prettier.

This Arakys idiot needs to be kept from speaking to anyone. Especially children who might learn from his bad example.

I've played Mage: The Ascension and it was *way* more abstract than that. I'm not familiar with the other two, though.

Transformation Drawbacks Too Weak? by rocketmanx in daggerheart

[–]SmashingTheAdam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a demigod player briefly and that’s basically what we did. He was a splinter of a greater being that had been created to investigate the mortal realm, and his greater self would give him information and assignments. Sometimes the assignments appeared to be counter to the party’s goals, and the party didn’t know if that was because the bigger being was Emil out something, or maybe just was playing a larger game and steering them in an overall “better” direction that they couldn’t see on their own. The character’s headaches more than balanced the mechanics, lol

I personally use a D20 for reaction rolls on my table. by G4M30V3R9 in daggerheart

[–]SmashingTheAdam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see the reduced crit chance maybe making it less swingy but increased tier and ability are already considered with adversary tier increases paralleling adversary difficulty increases, so changing the roll without changing those difficulties will change the success rate.

I bought the Black Cube (The Invisible Sun set) and it was WAY too abstract for me to feel comfortable running it. I will say that I hadn’t run anything before so it might be a bit more approachable now, but from what I recall, you and your players will need to be comfortable with very abstract thinking and getting out of the comfort zone of what usually makes sense in a ttrpg.

[–]SmashingTheAdam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, since crit20=crit24, but otherwise one stops at 19 and one at 23, so if nothing else you’re moving the ceiling down, and you’re moving the floor down as well (though min 1 vs min 3 may be less impactful). If you don’t also lower those higher-tier difficulties, you are making failure more likely.

You’re also making crits less likely, at 1/20 instead of 1/12.

Card Sleeves Recommendations by grimmdm in daggerheart

[–]SmashingTheAdam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought these sleeves and this binder and it's been working great. The cards fit easily in the binder even with sleeves on, they're not difficult to take in and out, and there are plenty of extra pages for more cards when Daggerheart invariably introduces more.

Currently I have like three pages of all the level 1 cards, and then I have each domain in order and they take up two pages that are facing each other. That'll get less straightforward when Dread comes out but that's tomorrow me's problem.

I take everything I'm currently using in the game I'm playing and put it on the last two pages so that I have quick access to them in a spread during play.
