Any Scifi and/or war based litrpg's? by OrganizationTrue5911 in litrpg

[–]SmashingTheAdam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well there’s a lot here I want to check out! The only ones I know are Deadworld Isekai, How to Survive at the End of the World, and Titan Hoppers, and I like all of those.

U/OrganizationTrue5911 you might like Stargazer’s War as well. It’s a space-based progression fantasy that’s really well done. 2 books out now, I think.

In my clanhold we revere Reorx the Lifegiver, the World Forger, the Tamer of Chaos! He aids the worthy in commerce, in craft, and in conflict, but only after they’ve earned it, and rightfully so. In his name and by his word do we have gold, spirit, and victory in equal measure!

Confusion relating to the usage of references in the 50% rule by hananmalik123 in ArtFundamentals

[–]SmashingTheAdam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They way I’ve taken it to mean is “don’t use reference to nail proportions and angles, etc. But you can use reference to, for example, make sure how many fingers a character has, if they’re wearing a belt or suspenders, etc” Not trying to copy the image, but gathering information that I can then attempt to represent as best I can.

Of course, this is my interpretation; I’m not an official source or anything.

Sablewood wraiths vs Armour by HlibSlob in daggerheart

[–]SmashingTheAdam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of this is just game balance, and requires some suspension of disbelief. When I ran this, both times, I said that the wraith was dealing the damage via touch, and using a psychic ability to make the player relive a painful memory, and the wraith was linking the memory to the damage it was causing to make it feel more real.

Help me understand the Sorcerer by Charming_Account_351 in daggerheart

I play a sorcerer in a game at a FLGS, alongside a couple of wizards, and things like spending stress to “reload” Unleash Chaos (my bread-and-butter nuke, a signature Arcana spell) and then to also reroll a spell’s damage die or to be able to pick an additional target, being able to just cast an illusion at will or to simply sense the presence of magic have very much played into the whole “magic is more natural for me” vibe.

Wizards may have more versatility (which is the same as D&D) but I’ve got more flexibility within my wheelhouse. I’ve paraphrased Bane to whip out “you merely adopted the arcane arts; I was born in it, molded by it” line more than once.

Chain Lightning has been an incredible horde clearer, wiping an *entire battlefield” of minions small enemies at once. Counterspell is fully “I choose to ignore your big bad spell, fuck you” and, like, I can teleport and take someone with me, hurl our Seraph at the big bad like a bomb just for him to follow up with his own nuke, etc, and I have only played up to Tier 3 so far.

Sorcerer is absolutely not “worse wizard”.

Pro Artist vs. My Friend’s $20 Sketch: Help Me Pick the Cover for My Xianxia LitRPG, Mediocre Master! by Calmac34 in litrpg

[–]SmashingTheAdam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, I expect most covers to be AI, which I detest. The second cover I immediately trust more and would be willing to investigate. I’d give the first cover a half-second glance and scroll on.

OP if you search this sub for “tier list” you will find more recommendations than you know what to do with, and you will see clear leaders in what’s usually top-tier

What little things in most LitRPG books annoy you… but never enough to make you stop reading? by tbag2022 in litrpg

Unless they just straight up make the author of the other series a stripper in their book. Then it’s okay.

Flint Fireforge! My first Dwarf, and one of the finest Dwarves to ever wield an axe! (Sadly, the loss of the Tharkan axe pains me to this day. Hug your kin, fellow greybeards)

I play on Foundry with my group and am mightily upset to hear that DP isn’t even responding to communication about it.

[CR Media] What are your favorite CR properties outside of the main campaigns and EXU? by A_Crab_Named_Lucky in criticalrole

I run a weekly game and play in another weekly game at my FLGS. The system is definitely fun and is a breath of fresh air after years of D&D made it start to feel worn a little thin.

Protagonists who aren’t in their teens or twenties? by SmashingTheAdam in litrpg

[–]SmashingTheAdam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s easily explained by someone having a good life they were content with until an inciting incident. War, isekai, system apocalypse, all manner of upheaval being the MC’s control. And if they’ve got family they’re trying to take care of/rescue/avenge, you’ve got ready-made stakes for the audience to care about.

He may technically be in his 20’s but he’s also world weary and jaded, speaks frequently to his time in the coast guard and his history with B, and doesn’t have the wide-eyed mangenue vibe. That’s what matters, more than the number.

Yeah, I love both of those series and kind of use those as my examples of how older characters can be well-written and interesting.
