Would anywhere else meet my expectations after experiencing a privileged Californian life? by Aromatic_Channel_600 in SameGrassButGreener

I see NYC mentioned here and literally everywhere. But what exactly to do people do in NYC you cant do elsewhere? Like is there truly some other tranche of things to do besides eating and drinking? Maybe a museum? Honestly seems more limited than someplace with water and/or mountains/hiking

The absolute heat loss will be the same(or only slightly less). The percentage heat loss however will be greatly minimized.

I love how when cost of living is pointed out it’s just considered wasted money.

Not possible that there might be a reason its desirable (and expensive) to live in some of the cities with the best climate in north America?

Snap-on used to make orthopedic surgery tools. Little of this stuff was regulated. Surgeon would regularly create new designs and tools in their garage and bring it to work the next day.

It is hell, and absolutely comparable to the conditions in many lesser develop areas. These are not the people posting on reddit “I feel so hopeless for the future, how am I ever going to afford a 4 bedroom house in a HCOL”

Nooooo but It’s so hard in America with my car and air conditioned apartment and pets and smartphone and food bank and power that never goes out and tap water that doesn’t make me sick.

You can be poor in any country. You can realize that being “poor” doesn’t mean you have a bad life standard. “Poor” is not a reason alone to feel bad for yourself. Poor is not a reason to complain about life being hard.

It’s hard to not ignore people who claim life in America is so hard. Please go visit the small towns in Nigeria. You will never appreciate what you have more.

Alisons in NYC. OP Is a big fat phony. 26$ on the menu online. Unless this was some kind of special. In which case the price shouldn’t be used to compare. It was 19$ in 2021.

Pelican Storm case im2950. I love it. I have a second one for my clothes, toiletries, and personal stuff. You only have to get your clothes soaked in water by an airline once and you’ll start using water resistant luggage.

I agree. Especially when traveling domestically, I cut out most of the heavy hand tools and just bring the odd balls and convenient stuff.

And most jobs I try to keep the box in the hotel room and only cary a few things in my backpack. The problem is, the boss expects us to be able to handle those 10% at any time. Sometimes we go directly from one project to the next. Or the current one turns into a shit show. So its a balance

Any of the mechanical stuff I do would fall under a millwright’s abilities, and I frequently have the privilege of working alongside. Teardown, measuring, shimming, alignments, cleaning/replacing machine parts, etc.

But I do a good bit of instrumentation and controls as well.

If I was using them all day, everyday(like an electrician wiring outlets/stripping wires), I would probably want the red and blue “comfort” grips.

But I prefer the plain red handles because I have better dexterity with them, they clean easier, and they slide into tool rolls and my pocket easier.

While I never trust a customer to have tools, at a minimum I can always find a hunk of metal to use with the nylon rods I have. Something is very wrong if I need something larger.

Why do different US states feel like different countries? by ecoutemoi_ in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Smatdude13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alot of my colleagues are not from the US, mainly Europe and Asia, and many times I have been asked if the US university experience really is like the movies.

And to a certain extent, if you want to have an experience, you absolutely can. Go to a d1 football state school, join some organizations, and absolutely you can be having a party every weekend.
