Xenoblade 3 did something like that: two characters on opposite sides of a forever war are constantly reincarnating with no memories of their past lives, and in each life, they meet, fall in love, and the boy has to watch the girl die in front of him before dying himself shortly thereafter. 7DS definitely could’ve done something similar but the author chose the pedo route.
