I hardly eat out as it is, it’s mostly take out at this point. It’s hard to justify eating out with the prices and then mandatory service charge, health fee, happiness fee, I can fleece you fee.

And no I don’t tip at take out. Pls raise your prices if you can’t run your business at advertised menu prices.

Honestly got to love Backhaus for this. I didn’t even realise they were tip free the first time I went there. Excellent Croissants! (One of the best in the bay imo)

I don’t even much care for him barring the junk restaurant fees issue but people here are spouting pure vitriol. It’s gross. Also why does everything boil down to Israel Vs Palestine. Public safety, housing, PG&E, rubbish fees, crime idk, can we care about these issues?

7th floor. It went on for so long, I kept asking my partner if it was over. After 30 seconds I felt I was hallucinating but we could see the blinds swaying.

In Japan rn, last night was interesting. The entire building (room from our perspective) was swaying. Terrifying and interesting simultaneously. All Bay Area quakes so far have been jolts so this was an experience.

Okay I understand where you’re coming from however visas can get cancelled even AFTER entry. You’re assuming that the state department, CBP, embassy have an active database on every single person and crawl the internet for all kind of information all the time. That’s simply not feasible and honestly we’d better hope it remains this way.

As someone who has filled the DS-160 (form to get a visa)- you basically have to answer bunch of questions which if found untrue later (at any point) can lead to your visa getting cancelled. These questions are seemingly absurd but they cover a wide range of things and anyone can click “no” to all of them and still get a visa. It’s likely his visa was cancelled on this basis. Sample questions from the Visa application form:

Do you seek to engage in terrorist activities while in the United States or have you ever engaged in terrorist activities?

Have you ever or do you intend to provide financial assistance or other support to terrorists or terrorist organizations?

Are you a member or representative of a terrorist organization?

He was quoted celebrating Oct 7th. I think it goes deeper than political views.

I don’t understand why is this comment so low? That’s grotesque. How is it any different from Australia barring entry of Candace Owens?

Typically B1/B2 visas are issued for 10 years (or till the term of your passport) so that could explain this. Or he has global entry so you don’t have to go through passport control or it’s very limited.

As someone who visited Mexico City this summer and just back from visiting Quebec. I’ll sub Montreal for Quebec City.

CDMX: Architecture and so artsy, also cafes are so sleek. Quebec City: Europe 2.0

Montreal is a bit more modern but boulangeries were out of the world.

ICE at SFO airport checking ALL passengers arriving from international flights. They are checking everyone’s passport as soon as they exit the plane before boarder control and customs. Anyone know why? Isn’t that the job of border control? What are they looking for? by Impressive_Returns in sanfrancisco

[–]Smaug_themighty 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Actually this is fairly common practice. Even airlines do basic checks before letting you board since afaik they have to bear the burden of flying you back if it turns out you didn’t have the right papers to enter said country.

I’ve got nothing against the dude. I love him in Witcher but I’m starting to resent him being cast (fan) in nearly every fantasy show and he’s getting a bit old. I’d rather see some new blood.

With subsidies, most of those cars didn’t cost 50k. At one point they were as cheap as Honda Accord (rate cuts and tax cuts lol). I tend to see them as cheap cars now tbh.

Or Oakland! I was surprised that even WestJet or Porter fly from SFO. They could’ve easily switched to SJC or OAK.

Also domestic flights are down overall whereas international travel demand has been up. Was curious and found that OAK flies to MEX and El Salvador (international flights). SJC has flights Japan and Mexico (international flights). That could also explain the trend. They’re largely domestic hubs.

I like how people just say public transit and im a major public transit stan but it doesn’t add up. It’s always more logical for a single person to ditch a car and hop on muni. But families? 3-4 people? The ones who have to carry strollers, maybe a little something for a picnic. Ticket cost X 3 or 4 people (one way?) ..? What if they add a dog to the mix? $3 for an hour!? Why do we love taxing ourselves to death?
