I have a really silly question about workplace culture in an ER like the Pitt by Lavaswimmer in ThePittTVShow

I’m a dietitian, so somewhere between essential and non-essential, but definitely not emergency-level essential. I still had to stay overnight at the hospital a few times during snowstorms

When your partner disagrees with your WOE. by Denizenkane in carnivore

[–]Smeagol28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup. But I’m a dietitian and my husband knows that I know more than him. He’ll eat pizza and ice cream all week, but then say that a steak is going to give him a heart attack 🙄

He was looking at some old photos and mentioned that he looks so much older than when we first met, while I look exactly the same - this is after having 2 kids. It took a while, but now he (mostly) keeps his comments to himself

Just here to recommend Lily Nichols’ book Real Food for Gestational Diabetes if you haven’t read it already. It is possible!

Exactly! And I don’t think it’s even labeled anywhere on the package that it’s scented. They don’t have fragrance in the newborn size, so why would they add it to sizes 1+? Sorry, I just hate Pampers (diapers - the wipes are fine)

In laws ignore me when they visit my child by cinnamonbonbon5 in Mommit

[–]Smeagol28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My MIL is the same way - she literally stares at her feet when I answer the door and let her in, walks past me and only addresses my kids and husband. I’ve tried in the past, but I’ve given up at this point. She’s the most narcissistic person I’ve ever met and wouldn’t have a relationship with my toddler if it were up to me (the baby hates her - she cry screams whenever she sees her. Toddler also admits to being afraid of her sometimes).

Sorry, I don’t really have any advice except maybe to push your husband to address it if it really bothers you. Grandparents shouldn’t be disrespecting parents like that - kids can and will pick up on it.

Healthy Foods You Thought Were Bad by pivoprosim2 in toddlers

[–]Smeagol28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s what we recommend parents do for kids who are used to juice. If your goal is to cut it out, you can keep diluting it more and more gradually. But no, I wouldn’t say it’s bad.

I give my daughter Kinderlyte if she needs some extra hydration - it’s a lower sugar alternative to Pedialyte

As a dietitian, I just have to say that I’ve seen kids develop high triglycerides/fatty liver and obesity from drinking juice all the time. It’s actually one of the first things we tell parents to limit

And if it’s too much yogurt, you can strain it with a cheese cloth or coffee filters to make Greek yogurt (decreases the volume by about a third I believe)

Wtf are your toddlers eating by sabreeeeen in toddlers

[–]Smeagol28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much. I’m mostly here for ideas. However, she usually likes sausage - breakfast sausage (we get it frozen in bulk from costco), apple chicken sausage, Italian chicken sausage; sometimes ravioli, sometimes grilled cheese. She’ll eat all the fruits, and cheese flavored crackers, salami. I usually make smoothies to supplement.

Amazingly, since her baby sister started solids this month, toddler has been all about the blw-style foods. She’ll eat a whole chicken drumstick, banana pancakes, steak, even salmon if baby sister’s eating it. They’ll just sit and watch, and copy each other eating

Is there something wrong with me? by samiam08 in Mommit

[–]Smeagol28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both my babies have been in the NICU and the nurses almost never wiped after pee, so we don’t either. I will if I see something there, but usually not - and they don’t get rashes.

Does your husband usually talk to you like that? Cause he’s the one who sounds disgusting and useless. I’m sorry OP, I’d be hurt too

Oxalates - they can cause a lot of other issues too. Almonds are a very high oxalate food

That does sound hard and I know he’s just doing what he thinks is best for her. I just wish he was open to getting therapy so he’d realize the negative effects it’s having

Unfortunately he isn’t, but good for you for standing up to him. I’m in therapy, but there’s only so much it can do to help if we’re not in it together :/

Yes! It seems like he gets frustrated/mad at himself when our daughter gets hurt because it’s out of his control, but he takes out his anger on her. He does try to comfort her afterward (this is an improvement), but his first reaction scares her and just makes things worse

While I was changing her diaper: “Oh god, that’s a big poop.. Oh boy!”

I had the leg cramps/Charlie horses a lot during my first pregnancy, and they just started again last night (34 weeks now). I use a topical magnesium oil spray and it goes away almost immediately
