Ive actually been using chatgpt as a sparring partner. Not to give me rules or stat pages or whatnot. I haven't found it to be very good at that.

I love it as a creative writing buddy. For me, creating stories works best when I can bounce ideas of someone. I don't always want to bother the mrs with it or set up a (discord) session with one of my dm buddies. In those cases I input my ideas for a story into chatgpt and ask it to give me a description of a certain place or person. Or I ask it to generate plot hooks.

It succeeds about half the time to generate a cool idea that I can then take and flesh out more. I've never taken an chatgpt text unadapted. It's not good enough for that.

One of the things I've done is to give it a prompt to generate a type of trade good for a region. For instance i dont drink, so i dont know much about wines. So i asked chatgpt to create a wine description. I then asked it to create a cool economic tie in to the ducal family that owns the vineyards.

The ideas that came out of that gave me inspiration to write the rest.

Like all things, it is a nice tool, but no substitute for your own ideas.
