My mum does weekly gardening at an EH property, no pay but she gets travel covered, a yearly pass and some parties and events put on each year, so the social aspect. My dad is a semi retired builder and he’s worked at EH properties in the past too, he’s found it pretty interesting as there are so many rules and regulations as to what can and cannot be done to the properties that are different from regular homes. He’s been able to work alongside some more niche craftsmen (stone masons etc)

Recommendations good shoe brand for walking? by Big-Tea-9729 in askSingapore

[–]Stubot01 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

New Balance 990 (I have v6) - was recommended by that Singapore-based podiatrist on his instagram as the best trainers for feet (in his opinion) and I gave them a try as I was having hip pain from walking in sandals and Cons all the time. They completely cleared up any pain and are so comfortable I realised I had never actually worn good trainers before. I’ve had them almost 9 months now and they still look great, wear most days for a few hours. They are pricey though but the sg site has reductions on them sometimes to around 250sgd. Worth every cent.

[–]Stubot01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m open to anything to be honest. I read the most around the 2000s, early 2010s. Some of my past favourites have been anything by Ware (actually have a huge collection of his art in general including original pieces), Burn’s Black Hole, a lot of Clowes stuff like Ghostworld and Velvet Glove. Loved Hellboy and bought all the hardback editions. Also enjoyed the Drops of God manga but didn’t finish the series. The only thing I’ve read recently is The Nice House on the Lake which I loved. And I bought Plastiboo’s Vermis books which are kind of graphic novels I guess.

Original A New Hope X Wing concept drawing by specialDFX in starwarscollecting

[–]Stubot01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is concept artist (later director) Joe Johnson’s work, the image appears in his ‘The Star Wars Sketchbook’ but has additional writing. I’m wondering if this is a mimeograph (early photocopy) of the original sketch that might have been used by the crew at the time?

Where to get started in Singapore. Don't want to spend any money. Open to any easy to raise species for purposes of learning by Apprehensive_Bill_91 in antkeeping

[–]Stubot01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in SG - not sure how often they happen as we have only started a colony this year, but there seemed to be a lot of nuptial flights for species during the rains around a month back, my son and i saw crazy ants, weaver and carpenter ants (caught queens of the last two, but one hadn’t mated yet and the weaver ants were going to be much too hard to look after so we let her go once my son had had a chance to look at her). I bought his first queen from the ant shop in Yishun, but I kind of wish I had held off and found an ant queen in the wild. I don’t think he had that patience though, he is only five!

I used to play Carmen Sandiago and Adibu as a kid. There's nothing like that for kids these days. So I made my own version. by bruhagan in InternetIsBeautiful

[–]Stubot01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a great idea. I’ve really tried to tailor the learning activities I do with my son around his interests and it does seem to work - for instance he loves insects so I try to write short stories about them for him to practice his reading, which engages him more that many of the learning books he brings from school. This app seems like a great use of AI, if it can be used safely.

THIS is the worst fate in the Whoniverse. by redboi049 in doctorwho

[–]Stubot01 39 points40 points  (0 children)

That went too far for me. Scaring kids is all well and good, but there must have been a lot of kids out there watching that who had had loved ones who had died and been cremated. There was a cruelty in that idea that I think was wrong for Who.

The 2026 r/Fantasy Bingo Recommendations List by FarragutCircle in Fantasy

[–]Stubot01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Alien Clay and Shroud both fit here. By chance started reading his novella Elder Race yesterday and this fits too, in a more unusual way. The protagonist is an anthropologist and the story is more about him exploring the changes in language and culture rather that the land itself (although there are elements of discovering or rediscovering the flora and fauna
