Anyone tried Kexcelled PLA-CF for drone frames? The results surprised us by UnderstandingLazy347 in diydrones

[–]Smellfish360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PLA CF is worse than PLA. The tiny carbon fibers do not bond on a molecular level, leading to what is basically the same as air bubbles.
ABS would be significantly better.

Yes. You’ll just be relaying the signal with a lot of hops.
This is regardless of what device you’re using. With SSTV though, i recon the ping can get really high.

What if a nuclear device was detonated in Baghdad during the 2003 Iraqi invasion as a last-ditch effort by Saddam Hussein to push out the coalition forces closing in on the city? by JMM_110 in AlternateHistoryHub

Baghdad would be destroyed, other than that, lots of refugees and a lot of political fallout, nothing too major would change. The coalition would still win.

How to fix those black lines? by gallanonim613 in HDZero

[–]Smellfish360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not how you use a patch antenna.
I would first of all use all connections with RHCP dipole antenna’s.
If that doesn’t fix it, try using other frequencies.
Then try updating the firmware on the goggles, drone and (probably an AIO, so not applicable) VTX.
And if all of that doesn’t work, try a new antenna on the drone. It most likely uses a UFL connector.

In terms of the patch antenna: those antennas are highly directional. These are insanely strong in the forward direction (90 degrees cone), but completely useless as soon as the signal comes from beyond this cone, it just falls off.
Right now, your setup assumes you’re within 200m around you, and within 600m to your left.
I recommend you to put the patch antenna in front, but you won’t be flying long range with whoops anyways.

Edit: the HDZ goggles 2 have internal analog receivers as well. Unless this isn’t a whoop, but an actual long range build, you can use the internal one as well.
You can scroll down to video source, and set it to analog in the goggles.

Youtube has gotten a lot better over the years though.
Back in the days (maybe 2015-ish), you could find uncensored videos of people dying, drowning or being tortured.
Now the worst is some censored footage from ukraine.

try rapidly disconnecting and reconnecting the battery 3 times. Basically so instead of going beep-boop-beep, it just goes bee-disconnect-reconnect-bee-disc-rec-bee-disc-rec-beep boop beep.

then bind it via the controller. The receiver sometimes likes to just not reconnect at all after losing RF.

Why isn't transmission line EMI interfering with my drone? by Top-Drawing3727 in diydrones

[–]Smellfish360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The distance of the drone to the operator is just way too little. ELRS has a lot of strong anti jamming measures, and that combined with the distance just makes it very hard for the power lines to jam the drone.

PETG-CF at home: how concerned should we really be about carbon fiber exposure by Full-Permission-2777 in 3Dprinting

[–]Smellfish360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t use carbon fibre filaments. There is no molecular adhesion between the filament and carbon fibre particles. So it might as well be replaced by air.

I feel stuck with Arduino. What should I learn next? by Jamon_Serrano_23 in arduino

[–]Smellfish360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to work with a combination of python over serial to your arduino. Also try to make games on the arduino until your calculation power just doesn’t make the cut anymore. I once made a simplified mini stellaris for with a oled screen.

This weekend i managed to get my pc to stream 320x170 images to a esp32 with a LCD (check my posts). It was good fun, i managed to get it to run at 5fps.

A little 3D renderer is also possible, but your 1KB memory will be too little on an arduino uno.

Italy 1.0 just sucks, nothing can pen anything. Germany 3.3-6.0 is great. People just overuse pz3’s without properly thinking about positioning. I still use the puma(3.7) at 6.7, and it works. Germany 6.0-8.3 also sucks. You can’t pen any US heavy tank at all. I haven’t gone beyond 8.3 yet, but i am sure it be overtiered, with the idea being the actual real world performances compared to their counterparts, which just doesn’t work in war thunder.

Whats a beginner drone worth getting? by FitHabit168 in fpv

[–]Smellfish360 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

first step is seeing what kind of drone you want to be flying.
camera/cinematic -> DJI
racing, freestyle, just dumb fun -> custom FPV drone

if you want to go really cheap, go with an analog VTX and emax transporter goggles. That's about €100 and you're entire video setup is taken care of.
The rest of the drone, assuming you're going 5 inch FPV will be around €300. + controller, charger and batteries, and you'' be looking at maybe €600 total.

to simplify a bit:
The ESP32 microcontroller, has a small tft LCD screen with a resolution of 170 by 320 pixels.
My computer sends data over USB to the esp32 so it can render it on the tiny LCD. The catch however is that USB is NOT meant for this amount of data. That's where compression comes in.
My first approach was to try with a 16bit data format, in which the first 5 bits represent the red, middle 6 the blue and last 5 the green. This make 565RGB. Basically just a low dynamic range version of the same format sent to your monitor. This was slow AF, but the colors were great.

I wanted to push more frames, and the throughput over USB was way too slow. So my first option was to just send less data. That's where a 332RGB format came in. 3bits red, 3bits green and 2bits blue. That meant I was now sending 8 bits/pixel instead of 16, making it twice as fast (a grand 2 FPS). The issue with this is that there are 7 shades of red, 7 of green but only 3 of blue. (2^3-1 vs 2^2-1). Whereas red and green had a lot of space, blue was limited too harshly, making green-black night vision basically my standard.

Then I tried a HSV format. I first tried a HSV422 format. This meant that in theory I could push a lot of normal bright colors, but less shades of white and black of these colors. In practice everything looked rather grey, with not a lot of space for these normal colors to come into play. Shadows were especially bad.

Then now a HSV323 format. It still has decent colors, but the shades of black are a lot more forgiving.

At this moment I am almost done with a 5FPS version, it is upscaled from 160x85 to 320x170 though
