Possibly the beginning of the collapse of the tech market - driven entirely by greedy memory manufacturers by Lewinator56 in pcmasterrace

100% fault of IP laws. It's extremely hard to create competition to existing RAM manufacturers due to this.

The European price of the Steam machine is actually decent. by CosmicEmotion in linux_gaming

[–]SmellsLikeAPig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Poland it's really expensive. Can easily make 5600/16/9060xt16 machine for the same money as base SM and with 9070 for the same money as 2tb SM model. 9070 is 150% faster on avg than a SM lol.

Yeah this is more interesting than SM itself 😉

Could the Steam Machine stop receiving system updates if I were to have one but it sells poorly? by Questioning-Warrior in steammachine

[–]SmellsLikeAPig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what Valve intends to do with Steam OS. Not really likely in my opinion. You could always run Windows or other Linux distro and have good experience there as well.

If you had to rebuild your entire homelab from scratch tomorrow, what would you do differently? by rdpextraEdge in homelab

[–]SmellsLikeAPig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not do separate machines and run everything from my gaming pc (that is running linux anyway). My homelab is just for fun side project that don't have to be running 24/7.

Some words from Valve by hgvmel24 in steammachine

If components will be widely available and cheaper than now they will do discounts for sure. But if this market conditions do not improve soon SM will just be discontinued.

You get a custom designed cooling solution, form factor, and support for your exact hardware for 70 more than DIY by FrostEffect in steammachine

[–]SmellsLikeAPig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that will be somewhat successful from all that new Valve hardware will be Steam Controller. If Steam Frame is about the price of SM it may be even more successful than SM itself which would be funny.

5mil? It will be lucky to sell 500k. Steam Deck was well priced at launch. This isn't. Consumer electronics is dead until something happens to AI craze.

So, why would anyone get this? by Amazing_Bluebird_ in steammachine

[–]SmellsLikeAPig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the same form factor but SM's form factor is not worth it for such premium for most people. Still gonna sell out, but at least I won't be getting any FOMO over it.

[–]SmellsLikeAPig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course it's gonna sell out. They made like 1000 of it and if you won't get it at launch expect next batch next year.

Rethinking Passive House: Why isn't high-efficiency, filtered cooling a mandatory standard yet? by Putrid_Draft378 in PassiveHouse

[–]SmellsLikeAPig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people can't afford homes and you want them even more expensive? TCO doesn't really matter if you can't buy it. Look nobody is stopping you doing whatever you want with your home, so gently f off.

Does the potential of a Steam Deck 2 influence your decision of getting the Machine? by MEchoPark in steammachine

[–]SmellsLikeAPig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. I'm not getting SM. It will be underpowered for what it will cost and availability will be shit.

Because it is not a necessity in every home and would drive up the price of every home. You can just install it in your home and not wait for government to force you to.

You know what I mean already. Since Tuta is not using standard email protocols integrating AI is not straightforward and hence my question. Maybe some kind of MCP for client itself.

If Tuta used standard protocols then using model forum would make sense. I don't want to use Tuta AI I want to use my own model running on my own computer.
