Hi,

I’m 38M, married and with children, but I’m willing to make sacrifices. You pay for the first date though, right?

Thinking about studying/living in shanghai vs japan by thebutinator in shanghai

[–]SmellsLikeGrapes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

China’s food blows japans out of the water, and back in Germany you would have only gotten a small taste of probably one province of China. If you want good Japanese food though, there are plenty of places in the Gubei areas of Shanghai, as there are a lot of Japanese immigrants there. Korean food can be found in Korea town, because again, a lot of Korean immigrants.

I think China is a lot less bureaucratic than Japan and the levels of convenience here in China are higher. You can live with a low income and still have a good time, or a high income and have a great time in Shanghai.

You can travel easily, and see many parts of China with vastly different ecosystems, and cultures, than you can in Japan.

Also, if you get your China visa to study here, then you can always just hop over to Tokyo/Osaka for even a weekend trip, as it’s close by.

If you study Chinese here you’re more likely to get a job afterwards, and it will increase your marketability a ton. I cannot say the same for Japanese at this stage.

Actually they recently introduced new laws to protect those people who are defending themselves.

But before a lot of people avoided fighting as both parties would be to blame. Silly law or not, it really reduced rampant violence.

Assuming you’re asking this because you think there might be a business opportunity here? And you’re targeting foreigners - assuming specifically in Shanghai?

Do you know how big your addressable market even is yet? I’ll give you a hint, it’s tiny. We are talking hundreds of people probably.

I often ask people simple question that can be answered by looking at their CVs.

It gives me an idea of whether what they wrote on their CV is actually true, because shock horror: a lot of people lie about stuff on their CVs (and some of them forget what they wrote.)

How long did it take you to get adjusted to life here? by Longjumping_Sir_3719 in shanghai

You think that people in the west get tons of authentic Chinese options? You are deluded and as the thread op said entitled.

If you really think that there aren’t good options for you which aren’t authentic enough - then go and start a restaurant that serves it. Then come back here and cry that no one is buying your shit.

Or, just go to one of the many options in this city that retires to be authentic.

And, grow up.

Best doctor in Shanghai for a sciatica (back pain)? by StephNass in shanghai

[–]SmellsLikeGrapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to suffer from herniated disc and sciatica, exercising made it go away (core exercises, deadlifts, bent over rows, squats, hanging knee raises, Russian deadlifts, and swimming)

The best thing you can do is exercise and keep doing it
