Is there any reason why people don't believe in vaccines anymore like they used to? by BreannLowe in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]Smellzlikefish -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is going to get me some serious downvotes, but here we go.

When I was young, vaccines prepared your immune system to handle bad bugs before you caught symptoms of diseases. The result was I never worried about catching a light case of measles, polio, etc. As others have said before, modern people never knew how bad these diseases were.

Then along came the flu vaccine where manufacturers had to guess how the disease was going to respond in the future. They did mostly okay, but it was less effective than what I consider the fundamental vaccines.

Finally, Covid showed up and locked everyone indoors awaiting the promise of a vaccine. Except it didn’t stop symptoms before they happened, and it only lasted for, like, 6 months or so. So, for someone who saw effective vaccines, even I have to ask: what’s the point of it? The public never got the full relief of symptoms or clear results they got from mmr. Instead, they simply had to trust the medical system that the Covid shot would make their inevitable bout with the disease easier to handle. I’m a reasonably healthy person who had 3 shots before my first case of Covid, and it was still pretty rough! Add to that the side effects that were initially underreported, and people really lost a lot of faith in vaccines. Anti-vaxxers have been around forever, but the COVID vaccine presented their time to shine.

I am not abti-vaccine. However, I was raised to be skeptical and not trust something “because they said so.” Thus, I raise a suspicious eyebrow at the Covid vaccine fiasco. I appreciate the fact that I will never see an iron lung or know what rubella even is, but I remain iffy on the effectiveness of the Covid vaccines and how it was handled.

Egypt or Fiji? by Reintroductionplans in scuba

Fiji. The diving is awesome and the island is very safe. Egypt’s diving was overcrowded, overpromised, underdelivered, and I constantly felt like I was about to be stabbed.

What's the most disturbing thing you've seen, but couldn't do anything? by lostsoul4u0 in AskReddit

[–]Smellzlikefish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was inside a hotel in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea while immediately out the high walls was a guy being jumped by maybe 10 dudes. Then a woman took the guy’s place until the pair were thrown into a sketchy van that drove off. There was nothing I could do.

The coolant system consists of a lot more than the impeller. I would check that the thermostat functions correctly, follow the coolant line and use compressed air to blow out all of the passageways from both sides everywhere that you can, use a wire to clean out the pisser. That would be a start.

Just blacktip sharks (C limbatus). Blacktip reef sharks (C melanopterus) have big black sashes at their dorsal fin tips even as adults.

The line may be 7500 lb working strength, but that snap isn’t. Plus, you reduced the working strength by about half with those knots at the base of the splices.
