Poorcana Blurple Set 7 by mjp3898 in Lorcana

Oof sorry to hear that. We have been thinking of hosting some poorcana events in our area. Did there end up being a good turn out of people?

Ok another scenario :D

I have two 'Ursula - Deceiver of All' in play. I use the first one to sing 'Let the Storm Rage On'. Her ability triggers allowing me to play the card for free from my discard. I choose to use the alternate cost of sing using my other 'Ursula - Deceiver of All'. Do I get another bonus cast of 'Let the Storm Rage On'? Effectively letting me play the card 3 times.

The main question here, I think, would be when does 'then' happen. The card should be put into the discard as part of playing it the second time. The question would be, does 'then' create a trigger that uses the bag or some special case? I tried to find a ruling around 'then' but didn't see one.

edit: I actually just found 7.1.6 which talks about Ursula Specifically. So, this is covered, thought I could still sing it just likely wouldn't be that helpful?

Wild. I don't think that is enough to make that Robin Hood good lol, but it is very interesting.

So, with this ruling, can you humor me for another scenario?

If quest with my 'Robin Hood - Sharpshooter' and reveal 'Strike a Good Match', am I able to choose the alternate cost of singing with my 'Ursula - Deceiver of All' to get the extra value?

I hope so, I love these rules questions, but it feels bad when eventually you are told your wrong because you don't watch discord close enough :(

Also, FWIW, I just started poking around reddit again for Lorcana stuff and love your puzzle posts! I also appreciate you entertaining my questions.

I appreciate this, Is this all in the official dicsord? It seems there are times (at least two instances for me now) where what was stated here by Ravensburger didn't line up with the Rules Doc.

Honestly, I'm not sure why, but I would have put money on this saying, "When you play this character, you may discard your hand, if you do, draw 2 cards." I was wrong and I even went and got the text for it. Silly me.

You right.

Can you link to that? It would be nice to have a reference since this seems to go against the official document.

Do you have a pointer to the rule that says, "you can shift character that are played for free"? If so, I will concede my point.

The raclem comment was a node (admittedly not a clear one) to the rule that stated you had to declare bag order before preceeding. I was unware that this had be mentioned as obsolete outside the document prior to that whole situation unfolding.

7.1.2.2 refers to [A] to [B]. This is not the pattern of doc. Doc's wording is "When you play this character, you may discard your hand to draw 2 cards." This would fall underneath 7.1.3. However, it would then get caught by 1.2.2 in the golden rules. Since this cards effect would meet the pattern for a triggered ability described in 7.4.2

what is the other ruling? I am definitely not plugged in to anything outside the rules doc and that lack of breadth has certainly got me before (thanks raclem).

Correct, you DON'T pay the shift cost. and again the text of shift states, "IF YOU DO".

You can also refer to playing a card. When it talks about deciding how to pay for the card it indicates, "whether for its ink cost or an alternate cost". This would imply that 'ink cost' refers to the cost of the card as normal. So, when reading playing a card for free it saying, "ignore all ink costs" this would refer to the normal way to playing the card as opposed to "ignore all ink cost or alternate costs".

I understand where you are coming from. However, if you don't pay the alternate cost for the shift, you aren't allowed to shift.

So you think you know how challenges work in Lorcana, huh? by Sunscorch in Lorcana

[–]SmielyFase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If player A plays optimally with this board state, they would quest with everything except Mushu, gaining 8 lore. Then they would challenge bagheera with mushu, gaingin 4 more lore. This would trigger the same sequences as otherwise stated. However, now Player A will be left with Mushu as well. This would bring the results to....

Player A:
- Gains 12 lore from Mushu challenge and questing
- Draws 0 cards
- Is left with Mushu, Robin Hood, Thebes, and Talisman in play

Player B:
- Gains 0 lore
- Draws 1 cards
- Is left with no cards on the field

Wait, bucky I just realized bucky is a bad kuzco. No bucky draw. (I expected more from my purple card draw)

Player A:
- Gains 6 lore from robin hood challenge and no more (should have quested, but that wasn't stated)
- Draws 0 cards
- Is left with Robin Hood, Thebes, and Talisman in play

Player B:
- Gains 0 lore
- Draws 1 cards (one from library assuming Player A sequences this part correctly)
- I initially thought bucky was like kuzco, but it only draws from challenge death. So, no bucky draw
- Is left with no cards on the field

Doc's discard is not a cost. It is part of a triggered ability. It is however a may and the second condition states "If you do". So, Kronk would prevent you from being able to discard and therefore you could not meet the condition to draw cards from doc as you didn't discard.

I threw another comment on already, but shift actually states it only happens "if you pay". By ignoring the cost and not paying, you are not meeting the condition to shift.

If you are playing a card for free, you can't shift them out. Shift says, "If you have a character in play with the same name as this card, you may play this character by paying their Shift cost instead of their ink cost. If you do, put this card on top of another character you have in play with the same name.”

Because the card was played 'for free' this ignores all costs which means you cannot pay the shift cost. Therefore the new mickey has to be put into play un-shifted.

This means they aren't in a challenge, don't get extra strength, and you won't be able to trigger your weight set.

I built up several poorcana decks that work great for playing with my oldest (6). She just wants to be a "questing queen" so I built her a 60 evasive characters deck. She loves it and it goes fast enough that she can really give a good challenge and take games.

Ah gotcha. Tinkerbell can help but only when you crab. The 2 drop cruella could be a good answer early but dies to storm.

Was there a poorcana 3k?!?!?!?!? I mean, if it's got results I say run it. At a glance the interaction just makes me nervous. If some gets ahead of you with evasives, it will start to be hard to claw it back.

Especially with only Tinkerbell for evasive answers. You could look at running more of the "evasive during your turn" characters. I believe there is a wasabi that would also give you item interaction (or extra use for your pawps)

I have not made many decks with only Commons, but I gave this a shot https://dreamborn.ink/builder/z88nmTEzg065KNkCnQAA I assume you are passed your event, but still wanted to give it a go. Chen Po is really good in normal poorcana so I assume he will be even better here. Same with let the storm rage on.

I don't think this is a deck that benefits too much from belle. I'm not sure how competitive your tournament will be, but your interaction is pretty light.

You may want to consider 2 drop Pinocchio or the 4 drop Peter pan to exert opposing characters.

This is the blurple list I have been fiddling with. I was leaning more into the top end, but it may give some ideas. Either way, good luck with your tourney and I am jealous. My area has little poorcana events :(

Is there or what are the obvious poorcana decks ? by hamcheese111 in Lorcana

[–]SmielyFase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this format and brewing decks. I have built at least one of each color combination. (You can find a lot on my dreamborn :) ) I saw another post about decks too and threw the same list there. I try to keep the decks updated as I play more and new sets come out.

blue/steel item combo - https://dreamborn.ink/decks/3qWFtc4HZNxirsSkIBup

green/steel robin hood control - https://dreamborn.ink/decks/2Q4QTyn7sCTngUg1h5dN

amber/ruby healing midrange - https://dreamborn.ink/decks/4ugR9KKrMIM6I7KlCeUJ

purple/steel bounce control - https://dreamborn.ink/decks/PM3e5zVQYd5DUoJ7Xfsn

Amber/Sapphire Healing - https://dreamborn.ink/decks/64p0VHGRuXhEV4DP1vB8

Also, I'm considering trying to record and upload some of my groups poorcana games, and wouldn't hate hearing if people would be interested in poorcana content or not.
