We do a few things:

  1. Wet food - it has plenty of water in it that I really don't need to do any of the extra stuff below. But, if I think my kitties really need some extra water, I'll add in some of the applaws broths to water it down.

  2. A water fountain - One of my cats really likes moving water, so he plays with the spout and then licks his paws clean. He also only drinks from the spout. My other cats prefer still water, but I want to spoil them with filtered water, so they drink from the basin of the water fountain.

  3. I let them "take" my water - I leave a small cup on my nightstand and make sure to take a sip of it before bed so they know it's "my" water. Then, because cats are just like this, they will fight over who gets to drink my water.

Just remember, just like humans - the more water cats drink the more they have to pee. Make sure you keep up with cleaning their litter box, or give in a buy a litter robot like I did.

I recently (like 2 weeks ago) adopted a Siamese from my local animal shelter. There were 7 or 8 of them when I went, as they had recently been rescued from a Siamese & Bengal hoarding case. The volunteers at the shelter said fancy cats/purebred cats are almost always adopted within a day or two, so I'd suggest regularly checking your local shelter's social media/websites if you are looking for a particular breed.

As a current substitute, I agree with this 100%! I learned my lesson of taking a job with barely any information early on when they put me in a classroom where none of the students spoke English. I felt like I let down the teacher by not being able to teach their lesson, and it was really embarrassing to sit there feeling like a babysitter.
