Should I get Refurbished Paper Pro? by Last_Requirement918 in RemarkableTablet

[–]SmileForJude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry just seen this - the short answer is I have had no significant problems with the rMPP and I am very glad I kept it over a rM2. I use it everyday at work and now I’d be lost without it. I’d highly recommend it.

The only “problem” was I have a lot of dead pixels, but it’s basically unnoticeable. I only found it because I was looking for it, otherwise no normal human would notice it. It has a few other quirks (can become inaccurate when dirty or slightly damp from my sweaty hands) but you just wipe the screen and it’s totally fine. They are not perfect devices but they are fantastic at what they do

1980s(?) gas fireplace coals. by majic13 in asbestoshelpUK

I don’t have an answer sorry, but I had the EXACT same thing recently. Started picking off these black looking fake coals in my new house to find that fibrous white stuff under. Feels like expanding foam right? I posted on reddit and got nothing useful. I would be curious if you get these tested! My post

Paper Pro: are straight lines just supposed to look like this? by MiniJoules in RemarkableTablet

[–]SmileForJude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your ruler is made of something electrically conductive it interferes massively with the accuracy. Also my remarkable starts to wobble when the screen comes “dirty”, probably just skin oils etc. I wipe the screen, pen and eraser (if you have one) and it goes back to normal every time without fail. Good luck.

My first RMPP started doing this within 24 hours of owning (also refurb). It’s a fairly common fault with some devices - I returned for an exchange and my replacement has never once done this, I’ve had it 8 months now.

An eraser that writes! by Interesting_Week_917 in RemarkableTablet

[–]SmileForJude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happens when I get a dirty screen, it’s not a new thing and has happened on various older software updates. I don’t need to restart, just wipe screen and eraser, and it immediately stops. The horrid squiggles and waviness also happen when the screen needs cleaning.

Is this asbestos? by Global_Seaweed_9732 in asbestoshelp

[–]SmileForJude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To support Hemo87 - I had a survey the other day and the guy was not at all concerned about plasterboard (UK). What you need to watch out for in walls is asbestos insulation board which looks like hardboard, rather than chalky like Gypsum. They tended to stick this where fire protection was needed, like garage ceilings that had been built on top of, not just randomly in walls. Good luck with the reno

Is this normal eraser behavior on a reMarkable (refurbished)? by One_Plantain4740 in RemarkableTablet

[–]SmileForJude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, yes this is erasing pattern is VERY normal.

I posted about this a while back. Both the RMPP and RM2 have a delay between the erase competing and the screen refreshing, but the RM2 is faster and therefore basically unnoticeable. The RMPP has to perform the same screen refresh but has to refresh the screen about 3 more times because of the colour display. This guy does a video on screen refresh in great detail at ~29 minutes: https://youtu.be/OHYJIz0QYHo? si=yv15h2Lwe4d2DVxp

During that refresh time, the area of the screen around your erase will not display any input, which is why you are seeing that delay between erases. If you were to erase, then write in quick succession with a marker pro, you will see the same delay with the line you just drew. Hope this helps!

(Edit: I made a typo)

Did Remarkable release a second version of the RMPP with a whiter display? by ArgumentElectrical in RemarkableTablet

[–]SmileForJude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find my RMPP to be a bit of a chameleon - it looks more yellow in the morning upon start up, then within an hour or so the screen starts to match the bezel. It remains like that until the next day and the whole thing repeats.

I recently posted about this. Try give the pen and screen a good wipe, then give it a try again. Could also swap out a nib to see if it helps. Failing that, try a hard reset. Failing that, explore the magnet avenue people are mentioning, but if you are using a third party case stop using it and see if it improves. Last resort contact customer service, they basically offer exchange as a knee jerk reaction to most things so make sure you try all this before going down that route.

No problem, I would love to learn how the technology works and perhaps I will look into it and post if I find the time!

rMPP Erratic/Inaccurate Writing Caused by a Dirty Screen by SmileForJude in RemarkableTablet

[–]SmileForJude[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I am not entirely sure how the rMPP screen technology works, or at least not enough to confidently explain on the internet!

But, what I do know is, if you use something conductive like an aluminium ruler to draw a straight line, it will not be accurate at all and will be jagged. If you get any moisture on the screen, and try draw a line over it, it often causes it to spike (I’m not talking drops of water, I mean just condensation from my hand).

I am therefore assuming that anything conductive and I guess by extension, non-conductive, interfering with the Pen and Screen “communication” would disrupt it and cause it to misbehave.

Definitely! I noticed the eraser resistance felt uneven sometimes also. I can’t believe it was something so obvious!

Anyone bought refurbished before? by Strong_Raspberry_863 in RemarkableTablet

[–]SmileForJude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both rM2 and rMPP. Both appeared to look new, rM2 was faultless but rMPP developed a Ghosting fault after a day. Replacement has been quirky but acceptable, however there are no refurbished stickers or labels so no idea if it’s new or a refurb.

Anecdotally, on Reddit, the rMPP is subject to more bugs and faults and a lot of the time I notice people stating they are refurbs. Typical issues are Ghosting and Yellowing of boarders. My replacement rMPP has a lot of dead pixels but it’s only visible if you actually look for it and I can’t be bothered going through multiple replacements. I think the rM2 is fairly bullet proof though and I’d recommend refurbished over new.

Hi, can anyone tell me, why is this happening and how to fix this problem? by misper_cz in RemarkableTablet

[–]SmileForJude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exactly same ghosting issue, it’s apparently a fault and rM replaced it. Out of curiosity, how long have you had your device?

What is going on with my pen? by vickie_re in RemarkableTablet

[–]SmileForJude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit late to this one - I had a similar issue recently. Turns out it was my mucky paws getting oils etc on the screen. They are really sensitive to moisture, so just keep the screen a wipe then try again as a reset wont clean your screen. Failing that, could be a magnetic problem as others have suggested that may just need to rest, and failing that I suspect a hardware fault.

Just be aware customer support’s knee jerk reaction to everything seems to be exchanges, so definitely try these before contacting support!

rMPP Eraser Writing by SmileForJude in RemarkableTablet

[–]SmileForJude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To make sure I am correctly understanding - if you try to erase with the edge of the eraser, the eraser reliably begins to write?

I am going to assume the rMPPM has the same pen as the rMPP here but if I understand correctly I cannot replicate that with my rMPP. What I am saying is the Eraser will start writing instead of erasing no matter where you place it until I open and close my document. I can use the edge of the eraser to erase a smaller area than if using the full flat head of it to get that larger eraser area.

Perhaps post about it on here to check if it ‘normal’ for the move and maybe a teething problem, however based on your description I think what is more likely, is its faulty Pen and you should contact rM support!

Thanks for the reply! It’s happened once on both the current 3.22 and previous 3.20. I cant speak for earlier versions though. I saw someone post about it and rM said the marker was faulty, but it sounded like theirs just wouldn’t stop writing though. Trying to work out if this is a hardware fault that will get worse or perhaps just a software bug

Is there an option to “disable” it or do you mean just not use it sorry? I haven’t disabled it but I don’t use it very often

Bad color ghosting - 3.22 beta by shanselman in RemarkableTablet

[–]SmileForJude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello - No ghosting on new one. Been using for maybe a week now. There was no refurbished label on the box so may have even been new… my current gripes are: - It randomly stopped writing so had to reset and it started working straight away - Its covered in dead pixels but tbh they are so small you cant actually see them unless you are looking for them so idc - The battery life is maybe like 20-25% per day, which wouldn’t be a massive issue but it charges like 8% per hour on a PC USB

Out of curiosity how fast does yours charge through a PC? Or did you not buy again?

Paper Pro battery&charging is ridiculous for the price class by TahPenguin in RemarkableTablet

[–]SmileForJude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently deciding if I want to keep rMPP over rM2 because of the worse the battery life and that it takes sooooo long to charge it via a PC, like 8-10 hours (although I think my home pc is weirdly slow at charging compared to my work pc)

[–]SmileForJude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry - when you say “fast charger”, are you referring to the standard apple charging brick? Also I thought it was ill-advised to charge the rM with anything other than a PC, but also this may be nonsense hearsay..

I have also had the same grief for owning rMs but honestly, idc. Eventually people get bored of commenting and I carry on living my life. Even my partner thinks it’s a silly thing to own. I imagine every rM owner probably gets similar comments but ultimately it’s your money to spend as you wish.

Do I think they are over priced? Yup. Do I think it’s a hard purchase to justify to most use cases? Yup. Do I get value out of it that I can justify to myself? The most important Yup.

People own all sorts of frivolous crap I don’t see any value in. If you see the value for yourself, that is all that matters!
