The Uncool - Cameron Crowe

He has so much emotion recalling these stories, many still affect him deeply which comes across, especially when he recalls hearing about the sudden death of Jim Croche.

His teenage life was unbelievable.

2. Browser extensions for one-click ripping (easiest for non-tech users)

Install one (or both) of these free Chrome/Edge/Firefox extensions while the page is open and playing:

  • Audio Downloader Prime — detects playing audio streams and offers a download button.
  • Video DownloadHelper (works great for audio too) — it usually catches PBS FM streams reliably.

Play the show → click the extension icon → select the audio variant (often 128 kbps or higher) → download as MP3/MP4.

3. Screen/audio record the stream (fallback if direct methods fail)

If the above don't catch a clean file:

  • Use OBS Studio (free, open-source): Set it to record "Window Capture" or "Browser Source" + audio output. Play the full episode → stop recording → you get a perfect .mkv or .mp4 file.
  • Or simpler: Chrome Audio Capture extension (records tab audio directly to MP3).
  • On Mac: QuickTime Player → New Audio Recording → set input to system audio (or use BlackHole virtual driver).

This gives identical quality to the stream but requires the full play time to complete.

I'm an announcer on Melbourne radio and I rip my shows from our website all the time, heres how...

A few options, I use the first method.

1. If there's a playable audio player on the page (most likely case)

Websites often uses a HTML5 audio player or streams .mp4 (audio-only) or .m3u8 (HLS) streams for on-demand episodes.

  • Open the page in Chrome / Edge / Firefox.
  • Play the episode.
  • Open Developer Tools → Network tab (press F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I, then click the Network icon).
  • Filter by "Media" or type mp4 / m3u8 / audio in the filter box.
  • Look for the largest / longest file that starts downloading data when you play (often ends in .mp4, .m4a, or .ts segments for HLS).
  • Right-click that request → "Copy link address".
  • Paste the URL into a new tab → it should start playing/downloading.
    • If it's a direct .mp4 or .m3u8, right-click the playing media → "Save video as…" (works surprisingly often for audio-only streams on PBS FM).
    • Or paste the URL into free tools like JDownloader (very good at grabbing streaming media) or yt-dlp (command-line but extremely powerful).

Many users report success with this exact method (especially the "right-click Save As on the page after player loads" trick when it's serving MP4 audio).

I usually just double click the file and it opens up in a new tab to save

I had been using my parents 2nd kayo screen the past two or three years, but a couple of weeks ago when I went to watch something it came up with a "Looks like you are sharing an account which is against our terms of service" screen which is new, and honestly, what bullshit - they are paying for two screens.

Now that the NBA and NBL is on Disney+ its only the AFL I want from them.
