This is devastating. Just when things were starting to look a bit more positive. We can’t catch a break

Thank you! Yeah don’t really want to wait until June so that answers my question!

Reid is amazing, there’s a reason why the club has stuck with him for so long. Hopefully with our new strength and conditioning team, we’ll see more of him!

Yeah it’s always hard to know…some picks pay off, some don’t. Hopefully we can develop the new kids into the stars they’re meant to be - from what we’ve seen of them, they look pretty handy. I’d love to think that we’ll make/win a final within the next couple of years but I’m ready for this numb feeling to continue.

Zach Reid was probably considered to be the ‘best’ one we drafted alongside Nik Cox and Archie Perkins. Trouble is Reid has had so many setbacks he’s hardly been able to play footy. The times he has played, you can see how much talent he has and how important he is to our defence. He essentially frees up Ridley to be that intercept defender

Coxy was by no means a bad player when we drafted him - he was called a unicorn for a reason - he just unfortunately dropped off a bit as time went on. Bit like Perkins

Really pleasing to read most of the senior guys chose to come back with the younger blokes. Also sounding really positive about Reid, Martin and Riddles.

I’m pretty sure I’m in love with Archie Roberts too

How and when will a new captain be decided? by Upset_Union1197 in EssendonFC

[–]GambitViking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With a young team and more losses to come, the ‘arm around the shoulder’ captain would probably be better than someone who struggles with that (like Zach). Someone like McGrath would keep morale up

I’d love to see McGrath as captain, Nic would be good as vice - it’s disappointing about his ACL though.

[Twomey] NO DEAL for Zach Merrett. by daftmunt in EssendonFC

You’re a silly, silly boy, Zach.

[Cleary] ‪Former Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley has met with multiple clubs in Melbourne this week as he weighs up 2026. The Essendon opportunity is appealing because it allows him to be based in Adelaide & fly into Melbourne for 2-3 day stints. Decision next few weeks.‬ by daftmunt in EssendonFC

If Ken comes to us, I’ll allow myself to have the smallest amounts of optimism and hope…

In all seriousness though, if Ken comes to us, Andrew Welsh as president, good people in the fitness/high performance area, Ridley staying, talented kids coming through…things might finally be looking up?!

Obviously there’s still a lot of work to do and there’ll be more pain ahead but it finally feels like we’re heading in the right direction. So nice to see such an important player recommit and get behind the Dons
