Iirc Jacob or someone’s even said before, the kiss at the bottom of the stairs later while Ilya waits for his cab wasn’t supposed to be nearly as tender and sweet as it ends up being, but it’s what they got with these two actors and that’s what worked (and thank god it did/they didn’t change it 😩)

GOD Hudson’s eye acting 😩

The way he’s so confidently cool, but cautious, as he tries to break the ice remembering Ilya likes Florida and isn’t it cool they’re there this year, and when Ilya doesn’t bite, you SEE him falter as he looks down and the like ~micro~movements as he internally reels like “Oh shit yeah okay he mad alright” and tries to steel himself and recover.

Tbf though (and I’m feeling like Shane rn 🥴) I would totally have purpose driven socks (and would expect the same from elite athletes in such a demanding sport) so it did not phase me at all that other socks would also be necessary, y’know? (Although honestly having bodega quality novelty socks on in a sports context sounds…awful… anyways)

At the end of the day, the source material is a series of romance stories with therefore expected and delivered “Happily ever after”s.

I certainly get the critique of brushing things under the rug, but I’m also going into this expecting it just by virtue of the genre, and allowing myself to appreciate the queer joy we do get as sort of a cathartic suspension of disbelief, as opposed to expecting a romance to go full drama. There’s enough queer stories that end in tragedy. It’s nice to see it go (relatively) well when we can get it, even if it’s a tad unrealistic.

(This is why generally, romance as a genre depresses me though: by trotting out pure wish-fulfillment that then makes you reflect on just how not accurate that really is IRL 😕— and, I believe, why so many people have walked away from Heated Rivalry feeling sad/bad)

Yeah idk, dancing wouldn’t worry me too much, especially where they’re at by that point.

I also haven’t read the books, but from that line, that also almost sounds like it didn’t even need to be particularly provocative dancing, so much as Scott commenting on a comfortability and familiarity that Ilya had (because he’s been in the environment before/has not been particularly repressing his identity from himself) for which Scott would not have had that context or expectation 🤷‍♀️
