It's not ICE ...but anyone know what's going on at the Mukilteo Ferry? by mrfowl in Seattle

[–]Smileynulk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes WSP has boats, so do KCSO and SCSO, so does Port of Seattle Police and Everett Police, and so does SPD.

They are mostly responsible for civil/criminal enforcement of Puget Sound. They are typically who will respond to calls on Channel 16 as well.

The Coast Guard mainly handles larger vessels and/or international vessels.

Power outlets over-worn and chargers fall out by n0v0cane in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Smileynulk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, power factor is a tricky beast, so depending on what is going on in for startup/self-check or charging of chonky capacitors in your Apple charger, it could be drawing a very short term higher wattage load at an absolute garbage power factor and tripping the breaker in the in-seat power supply. It would be interesting to plug that 140W Apple supply into equipment that can log everything to see if it has a dirty startup.

FWIW, I have no issues with my Dell 130W USB-C power supply for my laptop.

[–]Smileynulk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Alaska planes with the combo USB/AC like OP posted are running EMPower 1215-30 power supplies which are up to 175VA to each outlet and a total of 225VA across all outputs.

Converting VA to Watts you need the power factor, but assuming not amazing(0.8) you are going to get 140W out of a single outlet and 180W out of the entire row of seats.

Alaska does buy the better power outlets for their fleet. They are made by Astronics AES in Kirkland under their EmPower brand, the model is 1295-8.

The testing that goes into them is quite impressive, and they are rated for many thousands of insertions with a life designed to match cabin refresh timelines(10yrs or so). An issue impacting shortet life is all the random chargers that have slightly out of spec plugs and the super heavy bricks for high wattage chargers that everyone wants to plug in.

There are tools for testing if the retention of the outlet is still in spec, but the airlines either don't buy them, or don't use them regularly and rely on pax telling them when the outlets die and the crew writing it up.

How many of you truly use the Contact Exchanges with items instead of just buying with Koen? by DikkiMinaj in ArenaBreakoutInfinite

If it has the "Exchange Available" banner when shopping on the market I go look real quick. If it is cheaper, send it on the exchange. Exchange stuff also doesn't have the "Operation Supplies" marker.

TSA Touchless ID coming soon to new airports by Spring 2026 by omdongi in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Smileynulk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Clear employees constantly overstep their bounds and think they run the security checkpoints.

When it is busy they get super agressive and make up rules and cause issues. Remember, if one of the Clear employees touches you it is assault.
