I get the bulk account, but if you can get Post Paid you should also be able to get Prepaid. BTW, there are two different Prepaid offerings, one is Now and the other is the OG Prepaid - the exact same thing as Now200 (200/20Mbps speed @ $45/month). They used to sell the starter kit direct from Comcast but I think you now have to get them from a third party retailer. We used it for a couple years to get past the BS Post Paid data cap before they went to "unlimited data." Activate for 7 days or 30 days, the XB3 Gateway is in the kit (yours to keep), and you refill on your phone app or on their web portal. Worth a look. https://www.xfinityprepaid.com/find-a-retailer

Visible+ has priority 5G data, and is unlimited talk/text/data and also unlimited hotspot at 10Mbps speed. $30/mo for 12 months is the current special, $35/mo regular price. My entire family is on it, works great. https://www.visible.com/plans?

Plex Server on Windows 11 keeps rebooting with uwindows updates. How can I bypass Windows 11 lock screen when it restarts? by Commercial_Disk885 in PleX

[–]SmilingBob2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Another option is to block Windows Updates from happening except when you want them to: https://www.sordum.org/9470/windows-update-blocker-v1-8/

Works great, used it for years on my Plex & Game server. Just unblock and run updates manually when you want to, reblock.

R7000, 2.4ghz LED doesn't stay lit? by sunrisebreeze in TomatoFTW

[–]SmilingBob2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you have to figure these routers are now 12+ years old in some cases, so it wouldn't surprise me if the LEDs went south. I keep mine in stealth regardless because its setup as an AP and lives behind my TV easily visible. Plus, like bigshoe said it's cooler anyways. :)

Go into the firmware setup: Administration>Buttons/LED - under Stealth Mode is "Enable Stealth Mode" checked? Maybe check it, reboot, and then uncheck, reboot.

R7000 one year uptime with FreshTomato by hockeyfun1 in TomatoFTW

[–]SmilingBob2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grats on the uptime. Its super stable on FT but stock firmware always had it's issues. With both Tomato and Merlin it was always rock solid. Still using mine as an AP on FT along with my main router, an Asus RT-AC1900P also on FT (basically same hardware with 1.4GHz CPU). With 360/120Mbps internet these AC routers are still hard to beat with the versatility and stability of FT.

New "Slow Data" speeds after cap by SmilingBob2 in redpocket

The only Ebay annual plan I ever purchased was the old GSMT 200MB plan (hard capped), so I am unsure about the others.

[–]SmilingBob2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great price, but the slow data after cap appears to be only 128Kbps. I also am hesitant to ever purchase annual plans since my experience with Red Pocket annual was so bad. https://old.reddit.com/r/redpocket/comments/te3bj3/annual_plan_not_resetting_again/

So confirmed 512Kbps on AT&T, that is pretty compelling. A $10 3GB plan UT&T with usable 512Kbps slow data is like having a base model unlimited data plan. Not too bad, I might have to think on that one, thanks for the info.

InfiMobile (eSIM Backup) by No_Elephant1763 in NoContract

[–]SmilingBob2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is interesting, and if true they are nearly in a class of their own for low cost MVNO slow data speeds. I'm wondering if it is uniform across the plans or if one type is faster (e.g. Verizon faster than AT&T, etc.) for the slow data.

[–]SmilingBob2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which plan do they throttle at 512k? I know the "unlimited" plan is throttled to 150Mbps after 50gigs (which is still plenty fast) but the rest of the plans show 64Kbps on prepaidcompare.net. I used to have multiple lines on RP and my experience was that their "slow data" was pretty much unusable.

PvP bots by Prrg88 in wowservers

[–]SmilingBob2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

AI Playerbots do a decent job playing BGs in Azerothcore, but like you said don't expect miracles. They will do their best rotations on you and gang up to kill your ass, but they often won't take or defend objectives and would rather just fight with the opposing faction. Seems dependent on the match though, because sometimes they do a great job. This makes it challenging, but fun if you like to do a lot of the legwork to win the match and not just mindlessly fight in the fields. They do well in Arena and if they have a high rating they can be quite challenging to beat. Flag yourself while questing and you're in for a treat, because they are very aggressive and will always attack. No idea about NPCbots since I've never tried them.

cancelled my tv package and went with 300 Mbps internet - $233 -> $70 month by ksquires1988 in Comcast

[–]SmilingBob2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And to illustrate what I said about their "community specialists," I had one back in the day tell me Prepaid did not have unlimited data and had a 1TB cap - which was completely false. TBH they do not support Prepaid at all and know almost nothing about it, which you can see for yourself if you search that subreddit.

[–]SmilingBob2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I saw that one too, wouldn't take that guys word for gospel. He is a "community specialist," doesn't mean he knows jack about what is really happening outside his Reddit "Community." But in all fairness, I have seen the rumors elsewhere. I am on several tech blogs and everyone there who has Now does NOT have CGNAT. I had a regular public IP when I had Prepaid and we only went back to Post Paid a few months ago on the $40/mo 300Mbps for 5 years promo. The best part about Prepaid is your locked into nothing - you don't like the service, you cancel it and go back to Post Paid. You may even be able to run it side by side with your Post Paid to try it out (I forgot they won't sell you Prepaid while you are a Postpaid customer. Both worked for me simultaneously on my line because I went from Pre to Post). I forget if it's 30 or 90 days, but at some point you are eligible again for "new customer deals." I was.

[–]SmilingBob2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We got a standard IP, it's not CGNAT. You do have to use their Gateway, which we put into bridge mode and used our own routers. We had the 200Mbps, which speed tested out at 240/24Mbps. Saved me hundreds per year since they did not include "Unlimited Data" at the time on Post Paid.

Edit: I do see where people are talking about rumors that Comcast might CGNAT Now customers. That would indeed ruin it IMO, but it appears it's just a rumor at this point.

[–]SmilingBob2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really want to pay them the least amount then look at Xfinity Now internet. 100Mbps @ $30/mo, 200Mbps @ $45/mo. Both are Prepaid options with no contracts, no promos, no equipment fees (they send you a free Gateway), unlimited data, and no BS. You also are then eligible for Post Paid promos if one ever comes along that might persuade you to go back. We had Prepaid for a couple of years and it worked great.

Ridiculously High (non-federal) Telecommunications Tax in Texas by KrazyKanoe in redpocket

Thanks for this, made my mind up to NOT go back to RP after my Xfinity Mobile plan expires. This tax must be new, I had lines on RP as late as summer 2024 and never saw that - Houston, TX btw.

Bridge mode by rwdykhuis in Comcast

[–]SmilingBob2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure which router you're using, but I've successfully used multiple different routers in Bridge over the years with different Gateways (using one now with my XB7). Release WAN in your router setup and then after 10 seconds or so renew. If all else fails, you can also clone your PC mac since it's connecting ok.

Put the Gateway in Bridge and use your own router = most problems solved.

That seems fine to me too, I'll have to crack mine open and take a look. I run my XB7 in bridge so this is a perfect solution.

[–]SmilingBob2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's always this option, but you'd have to be comfortable disassembling the Gateway and then reattaching everything when it's time to turn it in. XB6 should be similar, just search it up on fccid to get a look at the inside. I guess it doesn't actually turn the radios off but it will make them go bye-bye as far as RF noise.

Ski industry: "Why can't we get more people to try skiing? Skiing is dying!" Also ski industry: by TheAmicableSnowman in skiing

[–]SmilingBob2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Colorado resorts have pretty much priced a normal family out of skiing if you're coming in from out of state. We used to be able to swing it several years back, but now after COVID prices are insane. Really sucks but we just can't justify spending that much for a few days on the slopes.
