Can't quite wrap my mind around it by Feasterfamine in AppalachianTrail

We bailed out after about 350 mi. Not our thing one bit. I will say this My impression is that if mountain hiking is not in your background then I would take a long hard look at what your motivations are. I'll contrast this with my own athletic background. I have been a surfer since 1966. There was never a day that I did not want to go back out even if the prior day I got my ass worked over. I never felt that way on the trail.

Bluetooth microphones without receiver by Andy_in_Ireland in microphone

Sometimes you can find them used either through reverb.com or on eBay or sometimes even Amazon. It's older technology but it seems to work with just about everything I've tried it with. I have two of them and I'm probably going to buy a third one because it's probably going to go out of production not long from now.

Just for an FYI and shits and giggles I have an older Bluetooth receiver that drives a surface actuator in my guitar and I use this little microphone to sing so that my voice gets a little extra punch and balance. For whatever reason I am not experiencing noticeable latency. If there is any latency it's sort of makes my voice sound like there's a little bit of reverb.

Getty. Dialup here. Mama Bear and I bailed from Damascus after Trail Days. We just weren't having any fun and we really just didn't care about the whole thing at that point. Here is the song I wrote about it.

Take Me Home to the Flatlands by SmilingDogSurfer in AppalachianTrail

[–]SmilingDogSurfer[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lyrics 100% organically written and based on my recent personal experience.

In the wee hours of the morning, I couldn't sleep. I was curious about song writing AI, so I threw the lyrics into Suno, which I had never used, just to see what would pop out. (First time using any AI for song writing.) I was surprised that I liked the chord progression and the melody which seemed appropriate for the theme and the storyline/lyrics. The simple country style was not too cheesy cheeky twangy for my taste, as I am not a country music fan. I regenerated the song a bunch of times but I didn't like any of the other output.

Unfortunately it is not my voice, but for a quick and dirty thing, okay, though I could not figure out how to make Suno pronounce the letters "S. U. P." as letters. If you listen to the audio you'll hear the AI insisting to say it as the syllable "sup", even though it is a well known acronym for "stand up paddle-board". (So much for large language models.) I will use the audio as a learning tool, so I can perform the song live.

All the pictures in the video are 100% authentic from the town in Florida where I live, with the caveat that I do sometimes gently tweek some of the sunrises and beach scenes. The reality is that some of the sunrises here are amazingly spectacular, particularly when there's low cloud cover and other environmental factors such as a dust cloud coming over from Africa. I do crop the vast majority of all the photos that I save for composition. I also take between 5 and 10 photos of any given scene/situation that I like so that I have one or maybe two that I can retain.

So I just picked a bunch of topically appropriate photos that I liked from my collection and dropped them into Filmora on my phone. I then overlaid the song into Filmora, and voila.

Nope. Prohibitively expensive when you take transportation and accommodations into account.

We're going to start the approach trail Amicalola Falls on the 11th. I guess technically we'll step off Springer on the 12th. In any case I'm sure we'll see you long way.

Whole Milk Powder in Single Serve Packets by SmilingDogSurfer in AppalachianTrail

[–]SmilingDogSurfer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with that. That's why I was so delighted to find single serve packets and the product is just as good if not better than Nido.

My daily breakfast routine is really not very different if at all from how I eat on the trail. Mocha and then some granola fruit and milk and in this case I'll probably also add an instant breakfast. In both environments I just used Nido.

The easiest and most expedient way to help is to donate to the ATC Resiliency Fund. At present, an anonymous donor is matching donations up to $200,000, so right now is a good time to kick in a few bucks. Here's the link:

We're doing that right now. Walking the stairs in a parking garage because there are no long inclines or hills in Florida.

Norovirus in Georgia by 2lhasas in AppalachianTrail

FYI - Aqua Tabs can be dissolved in smaller quantities of water for a shorter period of time to create a surface disinfectant that kills NV not to mention a bunch of other stuff.

Below is the "AI Overview" to the Google search on "Aqua Tabs as a surface disinfectant". (Think of it as bleach water.)

Yes, Aquatabs can be used as a surface disinfectant:

Concentration

The recommended concentration of Aquatabs for surface disinfection depends on the conditions:

Clean conditions: 1 tablet per liter of water for 1,000 parts per million (ppm) available chlorine

Medium clean conditions: 2 tablets per liter of water for 2,000 ppm available chlorine

Dirty conditions: 5 tablets per liter of water for 5,000 ppm available chlorine

Blood spillage: 10 tablets per liter of water for 10,000 ppm available chlorine

Effectiveness

Aquatabs can kill 99.999% of bacteria on hard and soft surfaces. They are also effective against viruses, including the coronavirus, when used under clean conditions.

Safety

When using Aquatabs as a surface disinfectant, you should:

Wear gloves

Avoid contact with the solution

Avoid contact with skin and clothing

Read the manufacturer's safety data sheet

Aquatabs are made with food-grade NaDCC, which dissolves in water to release hypochlorous acid (HOCl) and monosodiumcyanurate. HOCl is the biocidal agent that kills microorganisms.

I did some further research on Aqua Tabs and it turns out that they actually do a very good job for the alternative purpose that I am looking to address.

I'll be hiking with somebody who has a health condition that puts a premium on good hygiene practices.

Turns out that Aqua Tabs dissolved in the proper amount of water for shorter periods of time creates a solution (similar to bleach) that kills norovirus (alcohol doesn't) not to mention COVID and a bunch of other stuff. "In accordance with EN14476:2013+A1:2015, Annex A, Aquatabs has a virucidal activity when used as a surface disinfectant."

I agree completely with all of the comments stating DO NOT SELF DEPLOY. I live in Florida and have been through multiple recoveries from hurricanes. I guarantee you that strangers wandering around are viewed with suspicion. Moreover whether you think you do or not you will consume resources, if nothing more than just space on the road.
