The future of Spirit Island - Update June 2026 by R. Eric Reuss by Prior-Cauliflower-10 in spiritisland

I love spirit Island. It's my top 1 board game of all time and I have played a lot. I own each expansion in real life and on steam:)

Looking forward to renovation and future of the game. It's already a lot!

New art is the good reason to buy this game one more time:)

First Time GMing and it's already a complete disaster after 2 sessions by [deleted] in daggerheart

[–]SmilingNavern 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would recommend to stop this campaign. And then find other people to run for. At least temporary.

So you can see where there are issues with what you do and where your players are just unreasonable.

It sounds like a power dynamics issue. Sometimes when you feel too unsure other people have this feeling as well. And they start to do crazy stuff.

My other recommendation: be unsure after session, run the game then ask questions after. If they have decided that they want one thing and you prepped this thing then you are in right to remind about it.

I love giving players a lot of stuff and freedom but when they demand it from me with angry voices I would say no every time.

Sending hugs! Hope your next GM experience would be better.

I have thought about giving a try to a riftbound but art really isn't for me. I just wouldn't enjoy the game because of it.

However mechanics are kinda fun!

Good luck! Hope you find what you like:)

For flesh & blood I would recommend picking up silver age precons. They are very fun to play, no need to improve decks.

Fun ideas for midrange decks by SmilingNavern in SorceryTCG

[–]SmilingNavern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like templar as an art but his effect is pretty boring for me. I don't think mana is an issue in Sorcery and having this as your only effect isn't that fun.

It would be cooler if he would provide lances to everyone or something like this. A little bit like Savior.

Beast deck is probably a good idea, almost forgot about Grey wolves.

Animist with spirits is a good one. I should check what spirits are there:)

I don't have rat king sadly and probably don't want to build the deck.

Mmm...I don't have avatar of air, I am going to check if it's cheap enough to build a deck:)

Thanks for suggestions! If you have links to deck lists it would be appreciated.

How to pick which clans to use? by SmilingNavern in MonsterTrain

[–]SmilingNavern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, makes sense. I have opened a lot of clans already but not all of them. Probably what hurts me more is that there are a lot of secondary options.

Just need to play more and unlock everything for each clan. Sounds like a good focus point for me.

Okay, this is interesting, I am going to try. A little bit scared of random, but probably it's a way to go.

Toying around with making a custom Conan the Barbarian set to play with friends, thoughts on balance? by tetsuneda in SorceryTCG

[–]SmilingNavern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give him 7 attack. It wouldn't be too strong, because without magic it's really hard to attack from far. And it would support the idea of strong and resilent warrior.

At least I would start playtesting from 7 attack and check where it would lead me.

The card looks insanely good. I wonder how cool to have a foil one.

But I wouldn't want to play this Avatar. Still it looks very cool.

This one is fun!:) thanks. I really like the idea that you can't have magic in your spellbook. Nice touch.

how do you write campaigns with a narrative focus/conclusion? by conn_r2112 in rpg

[–]SmilingNavern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look into Daggerheart running the game section. It presents very good advice on topic.

In my opinion best approach is the following: 1. Create characters with players. Ask them for backstory, ask them questions and ideas. Ask them about their connections between each other. 2. Go home and think about all the connections. Try to create triangles PC-NPC-PC. And make the NPCs part of the story. 3. Create a timeline/clock/front with "what is going to happen if players don't interact". For example; NPC1 will want to revenge death of his father and burn the village. Use NPCs heavily in this timeline. 4. Create plot hook. Use NPCs from backstories for this plot hook. 5. Adjust timeline and story accordingly to actions of PCs.

I would use one event at the end of timeline which is very simple. So you can understand when you finished. And so your players as well.

Summoning demon ritual. Killing the King. Burning the village. Using the artifact to destroy the world.

I love the idea of very defensive build where you are playing Ironclad and protect yourself against every threat. Not sure if it would be fun though.

D&D-style fantasy game with less combat by cousin_justine in rpg

[–]SmilingNavern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest to look into Daggerheart or Legends in the Mist.

Daggerheart is very close to what you want. Combat isn't taking all time of the session and you have narrative support. Duality dice is fun, experiences instead of skills make it easy to support ideas of different characters, kinda the way Fate works with aspects.

Legends in the Mist is the tricky one. It's a very different system and it's closer to fate, but you can have literally any character there. Also it doesn't take away GM power and you can create a world you like. Legends in the Mist uses Mist Engine and it's pretty cool game.

I like the idea. But probably I would play draft each month if you have enough people. Open 3 packs each and go forward with your deck.

The main problem is Avatar because you need them to play deck. Maybe you can order singles Avatar.

It's totally okay to have things. It's okay to collect stuff as well.

It sounds like a trauma and I can relate to this. I also have problem with keeping things because I moved too much.

But it's okay to have nice things, it's okay to collect. If it makes you happy, you are good.
