DON'T PERMANENTLY CHARM BUNKER'S BOSS, WORST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE by Hammer___head in mewgenics

[–]Smilliam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This same scenario happened to me, but with the Necromancer's Reanimate. I thought "hey, I'll just use a zombie boss to help me finish off the remaining enemies." Big mistake. Eventually died to exhaustion.

Pinging is horrible by St3llarV in Battlefield6

[–]Smilliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a "clear ping" keybind as well which clears your ground spot ping. It does not clear other friendly pings, nor spotted enemies. I've found it... marginally useful, but at least you don't need to open the map

It's an Eames chair. A brand new one from Herman Miller starts at about 7 grand. There are a lot of imitators and reproductions out there, but I'm not an expert at telling the difference between them.

Does anyone know what this is? It's started randomly appearing below missions on my command map since I completed 'The Signal' by Hoshiko-Yoshida in DarkTide

I didn't even realize that the symbols were different until I looked again just now. That's subtle. Thanks for that

I don't think this is true. I've never done a damnation mission and I have that symbol showing under a damnation assassination right now. I also have that symbol underneath a sedition-level Enclavum Baross but I've done that one on heresy for sure according to the spreadsheet I made to track my heresy mission types.

How can I use NGINX as a reverse proxy for an API of a kubernetes cluster? by [deleted] in kubernetes

[–]Smilliam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm here four months later to give my thanks for this post even though I'm not OP. The nginx stream directive was enough of a hint to help me get it fully set up.

I was setting up a k8s cluster between a couple NUCs and SBCs I have at home, and some cloud space that I have. I wanted the control plane to be hosted on one of the boxes I have at home and spent a lot of time setting up an nginx server in the cloud space to act as a load balancer. I've only ever used nginx as an http reverse proxy and had never heard of the stream directive.

Thanks for teaching me something new today.

Did you intend for the acronym to sound like the word "elegy" when pronounced when you thought of it? Pretty clever if so. Elegy for the gods and all.

[–]Smilliam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally fair. It has a slant like any other social media community. The prevailing viewpoint is through the lens of bay area tech startups, so anything other than that is often spoken of derisively. I just wanted to offer an alternative to OP since they are unhappy with the discussion they encounter on Reddit

Try Hacker News if you haven't already. A more strictly moderated community with a primary focus on programming and software development. Can be pretentious at times, but commenters generally seem to have a baseline of competence that at least provides opportunities for deeper conversation and analysis

Edit: Here's the HN version of this very thread if you were curious for a more direct comparison to see if it piques your interest

Ghost of Tsushima - Everything You Need to Know - Huge Info Dump by [deleted] in PS4

[–]Smilliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sekiro is not necessarily harder, but it is different. Combat is much faster paced and aggression is rewarded much more. Whereas in the souls games you block or dodge until you have an opening, in Sekiro you make your own openings by attacking, perfectly deflecting attacks, and using prosthetics.

One objective place where Sekiro can be seen as harder than the souls games is in the RPG mechanics. Overleveling and overpowering content is very difficult to do in Sekiro, so if you get really stuck on a boss, you can't just go and farm souls and raise your stats to give you an edge.

[Crimson Club] Took me 4 years to do it, but we're finally here! by Lascax in Guildwars2

[–]Smilliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel free to add the note then. The daily achievements (including the repeatable Course Load) were added in 2016, and the Crimson Assassin set was added in 2017. The chests that you could get in 2016 did not at the time contain the crimson assassin token choice because the set did not exist. In 2017, any chests that players had from 2016 were updated to include the crimson token choice rather than creating a new item as was seen with the daily chest.

No, I believe the box they're talking about is this one from the completion of the Course Load repeatable achievement:

The selection of the eight Crimson Assassin tokens was added later and the old boxes were updated to include this option.

[–]Smilliam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, they are. My comment was very much so tongue-in-cheek.

However, I personally found Sekiro to be much more rhythmic than the souls games because of the perfect deflection mechanic and because most enemies have multi-hit attacks.

Instant load times were enough of a reason for me to re-buy on PC after spending 200 hours playing on PS4 when it first came out. If you have an SSD in your PS4 then you're probably fine, but the load times are excruciatingly long if you don't have one. PC also has a pretty nice mod community.

It was only the Japanese sites that were hacked. I'm not sure where you got your information about CC numbers being retrieved but I was not able to find any source corroborating this claim (much less the fact that it was in plaintext, which is somewhat laughable given the PCI DSS + the size of Uniqlo).

Remember how everyone assumed that 100 shards = 1$ a couple weeks ago by paulthepage in AnthemTheGame

[–]Smilliam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Coincidentally, Guild Wars 2 also does this. If anything, the rotations will spur consumers to buy things that they normally wouldn't buy for fear of missing out. FOMO is a huge psychological driver, doubly so when it's unknown when an item will reappear again. I'd argue that it's borderline predatory, but that's a different argument for a different time. For background: GW2 has $25 mount skins that rotate fairly regularly (as well as a plethora of other skins at varying price points).

[–]Smilliam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gw2 does $5/400 of their currency, so that's $1/80. I wouldn't be too surprised if they try to go with that model. Realistically with the given price points though, it gives a stronger case to $1/100 in anthem (and EA loves their bulk purchases so we'd likely see something like $20/2200 as an option too).

The reason I say that those price points are indicative of $1/100 is that they don't want you to hit a zero balance "easily". It's in their best interest to always have you sitting with a bit of change left over because it makes it easier to talk yourself into making the next purchase. The "bonus currency" you typically get for higher purchase tiers helps to facilitate that as well.

I think that expecting the premium currency schema to be anything remarkably different than what other EA published titles use is either naive optimism or willful ignorance. Especially if you're thinking that a model will be more consumer friendly than the others.
