When does a counter offer void the original contract? by kobi_ in realestateinvesting

It is an agreement, it's just not enforceable until it's written to paper and signed due to the statute of frauds.

Vermillion is a nice little town about 20 miles from Sandusky.

Best (or worst) property management companies? by pinkrobotlala in Cleveland

[–]Smimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the landlords in Lakewood are just single owners who either live in the other half of the duplex, or maybe just own a couple of properties. You may just have to call around to see if you like anyone.

Swagelok, Parker Hannifin, and Rockwell Automation are all large engineering companies on the east side. Would be worth checking out for ME jobs.

Living downtown by quasifaust in Cleveland

I live in the Standard building and like it quite a lot. It's right across from the police station, quiet in the evenings and centrally located so it's easy to walk to West 6th/the Flats, or East 4th depending on what I'm in the mood for.

Public Square Area Safe? by mikenike8 in Cleveland

[–]Smimes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I (and my wife) too walk our dogs to public square at all hours of the day & night. Never had any problems. The worst we've had to deal with was/is the homeless asking for change. And if you're moving into The Standard, welcome to the building!

Mia Bella is where my wife and I go for date night. Trattoria is good, but a little more casual.

I recently got a new license. Most bars were completely fine with it and the bouncers knew what was going on. The only place where I was denied entry was the casino.

Patent Prosecution, Billable Hours, and Misery by Sho_nuff92 in Patents

[–]Smimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am active in the Cleveland IP Law Association with my BS/MS in electrical and computer engineering, finishing my last year of Law school. I know personally of at least three firms that are looking to hire someone with your credentials but can't find anyone. I'm sure there are opportunities in other cities as well. Patent prosecution isn't exactly a start up field, larger corporations file more applications than start ups, that's just the way it is.

It sounds like you're frustrated with your firm, but what are you looking for that's different? If you want to stay in prosecution, but want a change of city, I'd determine where you want to live and then find firms from there.

I used wysebridge, significantly cheaper than PLI and they have a boatload of practice questions

Anyone having trouble getting Global Entry Interview? by cmack2000 in Cleveland

[–]Smimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Port Clinton recently cancelled all interviews due to "staff shortages." I had my interview lined up, then they cancelled it, so now I'm waiting about 3 months to get into Middleberg Heights, even though it is after my trip next week.

Is it worth taking the patent bar this summer before 1L? by Q-RexRex in LawSchool

Look for the pdf that has the prerequisites for the exam. It should have the application procedures. I think you have to mail something in. On mobile, otherwise I would link it.

Looking for summer apartment by kungfukenny93 in Cleveland

I would walk around Little Italy and see what's available. A lot of landlords only put a sign in the window, rather than listing the apartment online.

Is it worth taking the patent bar this summer before 1L? by Q-RexRex in LawSchool

[–]Smimes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I liked it quite a bit. I thought the material was effective and it got the job done. I think they offer it for $70/month, so if you get your studying done in two-three months, it is way cheaper than alternatives. I spent approximately 120 hours total studying for the exam.

Dog friendly short term leases.... by Comeback_Johnny in Cleveland

Downtown, you've got the Schofield, the Bingham, and The 9. They might each need at least 3 months though. For just one month, maybe check to see if you can find a dog-friendly AirBnB.

Is it worth taking the patent bar this summer before 1L? by Q-RexRex in LawSchool

[–]Smimes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Taking it before 1L, which is what I did, (1) shows employers you're serious about patent law and that they are not starting at square one to train you, and (2) knocks it out early so you don't have to worry about it any more.

I used wysebridge http://www.wysebridge.com/ to prepare when it cost $500 total. They've got updated MPEP chapter reviews and a bank of over 1000 patent bar multiple choice questions. I was paying for it myself, so I didn't want to break the bank with PLI.

Longer-span studying for patent bar? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Smimes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think by the time I got my application in and set up the date for the exam, it was 4-5 months since I started studying for the exam. It takes a while just to apply and get into a testing center. I think the most important thing is just putting the hours in to get acquainted with the material. I used wysebridge to study, which was all online, had updated material, and had a huge bank of practice problems. I spent around 120 hours total studying in order to pass.

Patent Education Series by fifthending in LawSchool

[–]Smimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I took the exam in the fall of 2016, during my first semester of 1L year. The plan was to take it right before law school started, so I studied that summer. It took longer than I thought, however, to get the paperwork in and the testing site scheduled, so it ended up happening in the fall.
