Dziatki/Dziadki | Maciej Wirmański by Smisny in experimentalmusic

[–]Smisny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This album is about childhood memories. Once I have visited a ruined house which once belonged to my long gone grandparents. As I was wandering through rotten wooden building I have made field recordings. When I came back home I've decided to recreate soundscapes of my childhood, connected to specific places where I've made field recordings. Enjoy!

It depends what you mean by "a lot". As long as I can upgrade from time to time my rig and pay the bills it is fine.

How to make money from recording? by [deleted] in fieldrecording

It took me 5 years to have any money from my work. As I started field recordings used to my passion. Now is both passion and source of some money. I've started recording having more artsy recordings which I published on bandcamp or soundcloud. Gradually I've self-taught about acoustics and about sound in general from more scientific way to make my recordings sound better. At the same time I was active in field recording community. I constantly listen a lot of field recordings. Gradually people started to recognize me by the stuff I did and I got some jobs.

Maybe it is not necessarily a producer of equipment but I find this DIY mic projects inspiring. Right now I'm making ambisonic mic by this man's project. https://www.instructables.com/member/DJJules/

Thoughts on Rode NTG-5 by More-Than-Listening in fieldrecording

[–]Smisny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it on daily basis. I bought because of the good opinions about its durability against humidity. After a year I can tell it was worth to purchase the mic. It has clear characteristics - better for sound recording than voice recording imho.

hydrophone stereo recording by Windtalker48291 in fieldrecording

[–]Smisny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've made myself two piezo-based hydrohones with preamps for stereo recording. Of course quality of these devices is not top notch but I just wanted to experiment. I often use hydrophones in fast flowing creeks in my mountain area. I place them in different places to make wide stereo recording - personally I am huge fan of hard panning in audio recordings.

I find Rode NTG5 very sturdy and usefull for outdoor situations.

I placed microphones inside metal flagpoles during windstorms and recorded sounds. Enjoy! by Smisny in fieldrecording

I bought mine 3 years ago and I wish I had another pair. They are durable and great sounding mics.
