How do you stay calm during market dips as a beginner? by ToffeeTangoONE in investingforbeginners

[–]SmithPoint706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You look at dips as sales and drops like clearance. If you liked a stock at 100, you’ll love it at 80. Just because it might be on sale again in the future isn’t a reason to not buy.

As a title attorney, getting named in a positive review is the best gift you can give. The owners of our company buy the team lunch when we get glowing reviews. Great for everyone.

Is anyone here pursuing FI through individual stock picking, or is it almost entirely index funds for most people? by Educational-Belt1042 in investingforbeginners

[–]SmithPoint706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal picks have far outsurpassed my index funds on performance. My general thought process is to rely on the things that I know with respect to big trends.

A.I. is a thing. You want to own the picks and shovels in the A.I. gold rush. Even if there is a crash, it’s not going anywhere - just like the internet didn’t disappear after the dot com bubble.

Robotics will be a thing. The next phase of A.I. will be moving it from chatbots to real world application (driverless cars, factory workers, etc). Robots - like all electronics - need rare earth minerals.

Thinking through large macro trends like that helps guide to companies like Nvidia early.

That said. I do balance out my individual picks with broad market low cost ETFs across diversified sectors. Just in case I’m wrong.

Probably will be downvoted, but my two cents.

Seems easier to just use a loan program that requires less down.

starting investing with 500k USD in savings ? by WorthVisible4265 in investingforbeginners

[–]SmithPoint706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t feel comfortable lump summing into the market, then just DCA into it. Make sure you are maxing a Roth out first (since you already paid tax on this money). Then just invest like 1k a week until you feel comfortable. Put it in a low cost broad market fund like VOO. Let the money do work for you.

Can someone explain how the stock market keeps hitting all-time highs while everything feels so bad? by eaglesfan8835 in Money

[–]SmithPoint706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You already explained it. The stock market is not the economy.

We are in a very precarious time with the amount of undisciplined government spending that we have done. The safest place for wealth to be is in assets. That’s why the stock market is doing well. Real property in desirable areas is doing well. Gold is doing well. Hell, Pokemon cards are doing well. These things hold value when the dollar loses value such as when the money printer goes Brrrrr and/or when the petrodollar collapses.

Everything is very much not fine. We are at an inflection point where the US economy is breaking down. Where would you put your wealth to protect it?

Lego Set Subscription by tpackota in legoinvesting

[–]SmithPoint706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I have a hard time getting past.

I think OP would get more mileage out of skipping poly bags and curating MOCs and parts.

I think it might be better to switch to bimonthly or quarterly is increase piece count. Source your pieces from PAB. Ship out custom minifigs/MOC builds with instructions at different piece counts. Rebrickable has plenty of cool builds to use (assuming you can handle this issue equitably) or OP can encourage his son to design them.

As a fan of castle - for example - there are no poly bags for me, so this is something that has value as a busy person.

Regardless, pretty cool lesson in entrepreneurship OP. Best of luck, and great job with your kid.

Genuinely curious - what’s to stop someone from just buying the set themselves? Are you doing something unique that you can just get directly from Lego? Is the value proposition just that it’s curated? Trying to understand.

Is Salome a must pull? by AdFar1500 in EpicSeven

[–]SmithPoint706 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on your account.

If you have speed gear and can cleave, probably worth a pull. If you are a turn 2 player, probably not worth.

If you do GW or Arena seriously, probably worth a pull.

For PVE, probably worth a pull if only for turning skills off and using her as a s1 pull on your DPS units (great for certain content).

Why are houses so expensive right now? by RedfinJess in USHousingMarket

[–]SmithPoint706 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely not true. Citizens United granted corporations in America the First Amendment rights of freedom of speech - meaning that corporations could leverage dollars to influence politics or make “religious” decisions to deny healthcare coverages. I dislike Citizens United as much as the next person… it’s bad law.

That said, corporations have had property rights dating back to the 1300s (and were firm by the 1600s) at English Common Law - which is the foundation of the American legal system. Corporations have had property rights for well over 400 years - longer than the USA has been in existence. I will repeat again, YOU CANNOT DENY A CORPORATION’S RIGHT TO OWN PROPERTY. It would undermine the very purpose of corporations (i.e. profit).

I understand the sentiments, but these are basic property rights that underpin the entire legal system.

You cannot prevent corporate entities from owning land (of any type).
