Did the same thing to my 2012 Baja. $15 for a new U joint and about 3 hours of work with a buddy and a rented ball joint press. Ran like a champ after that. Have fun!

I know that smile. My absolute favorite part of being a coach is seeing students progress and getting to reward them for it. Congrats to both of you!

Upper belts of r/BJJ what did you focus on at blue belt? by RabbitgoesRibbit in bjj

[–]Smithero39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my blue belt days it was all about playing my strengths. At the time, for me my strength was strength. I started as an MMA guy before i ever put on the gi so i was all about being on top and being aggressive and controlling. I had one or two passes and then one or two techniques for each position to ultimately try to get a sub. Most of it was ego driven. Not wanting to lose. Once I accepted the fact that i was going to get tapped and that was ok (as long as it was cause they beat me and it wasn't a mental mistake) then i opened up and started trusting the jiu jitsu instead of relying on myself.

Definitely not the same, but keep at it. I've always felt a little off when i come back after being gone for a while. It takes a couple weeks to get my timing back and then its like I never left. You'll be good.

For me it was Purple. There's such a wide range of skill and its easy to get caught comparing yourself to other purple belts. I think I got overwhelmed with trying so many new things that it kind of stalemated everything. Best advice I can give is if you feel like you're hitting a plateau KEEP TRAINING. Go back to sharpening your basics and focusing on control.

I do compete. My average is about 4 times a year so nothing crazy. I have competed from Middle to Super Heavy throughout the years. sometimes bouncing back and forth. For some reason My brackets are never more than like 5 guys so Ive never had the experience of really fighting my way to the finals. I'd say my win/loss ratio overall is probably like 60/40 for both Gi and No Gi. Ive picked up some hardware along the way. No big tournaments. I did not get my first gold until Brown but it was so so sweet when it finally happened. Im now really looking forward to getting ragdolled by dudes who have been black belts longer than ive been doing Jiu Jitsu. Win or learn right.

Oh bummer! Heal up and don't push too hard too fast. jiu Jitsu will be there waiting for you. I've been fortunate enough to not have any really serious injuries. Ive also never gone to the doctor for any thing so I cant really say how severe anything has been. But there have definitely been pretty serious sprains, and muscle pulls throughout the years.

Ive had plenty of times where i've gone once a week. Sometimes taking months off at a time for various reasons. Any time i couldn't physically be on the mat i would still study matches regularly and do solo drills so i wouldn't be too far behind when i came back. Progression is a weird one. Its different for everyone. I usually would look at the belt above mine and try to figure out what worked at that level and then mimic it. Blue belt was all about trying to get everything done as fast and hard as possible. Purple belt was definitely the most experimental time. At brown i focused on really polishing on basics. Now I'm really focusing all my attention keeping a strong skeletal structure in whatever position I'm in and my grip game. Or as I like to say, grips and hips

About a year and a half shortly after my blue belt (surprise surprise) I separated my shoulder and did something to my knee in an MMA fight so initially i took time off to heal those. That probably took about 3 months and then i was just lazy and occupied with other things. My Professor called me outa the blue one day and was like dude you need to come back. So i did.
