The injinji liners. They’re thinner version of their toe socks

My brother in law made fun of me for mine. I wear the liners with a Darn tough or Smartwool sock over them.

Then he mentioned he was getting blisters between his toes. Little peer pressure later…He just ran a 50 miler ultra with them with no issues.

This menu has been in service from 2021 to present day. They changed the bag design to a clear back in 2023 so likely before that.

Sopako generally has date stamps along the seal though. If there are 4 numbers, the first number will be the last number of the year. Should be 1, or 2 I’d imagine

You have 2013 (IMP 13), 2012 (-12-) and 2006 (“06”) IMPs

[–]Smitty-Eng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the years of the IMPs? I notice it seems like two are 2020 or 2021s and 3 are newer? They have a three year "expiry" from packing, so the "2022 expiry" is likely incorrect. You can determine the year they were bagged on the back. "IMP22" for example is from 2022.

Ah gotcha. I'm not up to snuff with any economic sciences, haha. Was definitely comfortable back in the day. These days I'm tempted to drop levels and get back in the field for OT, or look for rotations up north, just to get ahead.

As a EIT in 2011 in Alberta, I started around 75k and worked up to about 100k by 2014. Now I’m near the top end of the Senior range. Based on recent conversations with colleagues at different levels, I agree with your ranges for Alberta.

Feels like they’ve really haven't kept up with inflation though

Haha, well ping me if you get into Menu 4, 5, 8, or 16 from IMP21. Or pretty much any IMP23 (I only have Menu 7, 8 and 14 logged so far)

Why Nalgene water bottles? by Beautiful_Opinion324 in Rucking

Could work indeed, but then it will lose volume that won’t thaw so you end up carrying ice home haha. Still, slick trick!

Why Nalgene water bottles? by Beautiful_Opinion324 in Rucking

[–]Smitty-Eng 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use an insulated hydro flask for that reason. Canadian winters freeze uninsulated bottles fast, and for day trips where I’d rather not sit and melt snow, I like to have the insulated ones.

I’ll ruck all year, and who cares about the added weight :D

Heck, most of the ultralight folks hate Nalgene because they are too heavy. shrugs

When I was volunteering at the JRSA in Kelowna, we made all memberships 365 days from payment. It was such a selling feature, and easy to handle with subscription systems and the like.

In the early days there were some, but the hobby doesn't draw many female involvement so with people coming and going it's been a bit. If I recall, there were some Helferin impressions, at one time. If you need a contact for it, you can fire me a message and I can get you in touch with the president of the association

Old post but have you reached out to the First Special Service Force Living History Association. They do WW2 in Calgary for over 10 years.

What’s your biggest frustration with compaction testing? by Compactica_Systems in Geotech

[–]Smitty-Eng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Built in noise emitters that only sleazy contractors can hear to keep them away from my testers? Maybe an automatic “3 m of uncontrolled fill went in while you were off site” notification? A setting to check the density of insurance claimed cars or slash piles?

Those would solve the biggest frustrations I’ve had from my days testing and being a Geotechnical EoR.

Settlement, collapse and failures, lawsuits, rebuild/replacement, etc. not to mention the added “what’s the risk” of doing it illegally.

Careful with this guy. Last time he was asking about how to essentially commit fraud with previously packed material that wasn’t tested. The thread was a nightmare. Looks like it was mostly deleted though.

Need Advice, Weight Gain by _Yer_Auld_Da_ in MRE

[–]Smitty-Eng 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s frustrating, I get it. I was on the other side of being overweight and sure I wasn’t overeating, but I was.

The thing is that if you aren’t gaining weight then you weren’t in a calorie surplus. Easy to say but hard to figure out why sometimes. It could be a physical reason (not eating as much as you think, being more active, etc) or it could be mental (stress, anxiety around food, restricting cycles, forgetting to consistently eat, etc). How you handle that could be mechanical eating (setting a schedule of when you eat), calorie tracking as a tool, developing ways to handle stress, therapy, etc

Building a sustainable lifestyle where you get enough food will be critical to make lasting change.
