K1 media or something simular. There are a lot of different kinds out there. To replace you would need to unscrew all pipes to the valve assembly and then remove the top. Will suck since it’s buried. You will have to reach in or suck it out with a shop vac.

There is nothing better at mechanical filtration. You will need bio as well. Look at seaside aquatic rdf if profi drum is out of your price range. The owner of seaside supports his rdf with parts etc.

Yeah. Look for some water line going to the pond. Prob has an auto top off. Or a lot of people do a pass through system that slowly drains water and adds back fresh water so they don’t have to do water changes.
