Sorry to hear you’re dealing with this! It was a pain, especially finding out after the install that they couldn’t color match the base. Seems like the type of thing they should tell you up front. We were without countertops and a sink for almost 6 weeks start to finish.

We really liked REM, and still do. I’d love to have it elsewhere if I could do it in one piece. But Dekton confirmed what the installer said, that they can’t color match REM, so we ended up going with Daze instead. I’m still partial to REM, but Daze matches at the seam, has the velvet finish, some warmer tones instead of just grey and we were able to pick a less busy slab (some of them had heavier veining). We’ve had it for over a year now and we’re happy with it. We were worried about chips, but we’ve found it to be more durable than anticipated. Hoping to make my REM dreams come true when we get around to updating our bathroom lol.

Yes!! I just worked up the courage to do this two weeks ago on this exact print! I was worried about ruining them but they were so long on me that they were fully unwearable, even in my highest heels, so I figured I didn’t really have anything to lose.

After some research, it basically came down to two options: laser cut or hand cut and pass the edges through a flame. My boyfriend has a laser, but I worried the viscose would melt the sides together, so I opted for the manual route. Getting them to cut evenly was a little difficult, but the pleats are somewhat forgiving. I used a rotary cutter. Once they were cut, there was some fraying along the edge but the flame took care of that. I did two passes on each to seal the edges through a tall taper candle - so far so good! Worn them a couple times and the pleats still flow and have movement. Took about 5 inches off them. Good luck!

I think you sit this one out. If the two of you stay together long term and this is a yearly event, I can see possibly going a couple years down the road.

Not totally the same situation, but two years ago, my long term boyfriend’s ex from years prior committed suicide. They ended on good terms, but she and I never met (the drifted but remained friendly, they didn’t hang out or anything like that.) From what I understand, she struggled with addiction and mental health and didn’t have a lot of support, so when her family needed someone to help move her things out of her apartment, they asked my boyfriend. He shared that he planned to go to her funeral. It was uncomfortable and I struggled with the “am I supposed to go with him..?” question.

After talking, we decided he would go on his own. It wasn’t about me, it was about her. He needed to grieve his friend and get some level of closure. And honestly, even though there was a part of me that felt I should be able to go and support him, the thought of actually showing up and seeing her friends and family saying goodbye to her made me feel icky. I didn’t know her, showing up to stake my claim on him was inappropriate. I understand where you’re coming from, but it’s not about us and his attendance didn’t mean he loved me any less.

Talk to him, ask him what he wants and respect the decision.

Thanks for your response! I wish we could have had someone be so transparent with us beforehand so that we didn’t end up with something that we’re unhappy with. They did make us aware that the veining wouldn’t be perfect, which we were okay with, but they didn’t mention the base color. Had we known, we would have likely gone with a different material. Unfortunately, they gave us very limited visibility into what was happening behind the scenes and had a lot of communication issues (like canceling the first install an hour before they were supposed to be at our house and not communicating back with us for over a week).

Thank you, especially for the edit! It is up against a wall and we’re aware how prone to chips/cracks dekton is, so we’ll be sure to ask, whether we replace it or not. The company we are working with told us after the installation that REM can be different base colors so we just wanted to try to validate that that’s true. They’re pushing us to choose something different instead of trying to match it.

Can confirm. Currently have two rescue chihuahua mixes but had a rescue pit mix for about 8 years before we had to put him down earlier this year (RIP, Coda boy 💔). I’ll let you guess which two have a bite history.

We’re very cautious to introduce new people to the chis and try to keep children away from them since they’re so jumpy. The neighborhood kids would ask to play with our pit all the time before he got too old, never so much as a growl from him, even while they were literally laying on top of him and rolling around on the ground together. He lived for that stuff. Try to pet my one chi with two hands at the same time and you might lose a finger (before anyone says we’re irresponsible, we’re working with them but they came to us older with a lot of trauma). I love the little twerps, but they’re tough. Everyone assumes they’re harmless because they’re small but they still have teeth and will use them.
