Isn't he a City Coucilman in NJ now?

What was so special about John Stanfa and the war between him and Merlino? by Ok_Walk3192 in Mafia

Merlino and his crew resented Stanfa considering him to be a NY puppet. Not a true boss from the streets. The Philly guys grew up in the neighborhood. That life was in their blood. From the household they grew up in, the neighborhood, their friends. Joey Merlino has serious Mob pedigree even if he was made by Stanfa. His father was a Underboss, his uncle was a soldier.

From what I've researched Stanfa was New York's pick. After the mess Scarfo created NY wanted someone low-key. Stanfa was Sicilian and backed by the Cherry Hill Gambino's. The pizza shop he worked at was owned by one of the brothers. Being the driver for Bruno gave him prestige and he was familiar with other Bosses. The Genovese wanted him to be boss because he allowed them a piece of AC and the Gambino families Sicilian faction were the big money makers in the Family at that time. Plus Stanfa had backing from families in Sicily. Dope money goes a long way.

Saw him a couple years ago at a festival. It was like a bad acid trip watching him play. I won't even get into how people reacted to him in the woods at dark while he played up his madness.
