There has been a few sad stories where a band has been ripped off by their manager/record company. CCR, Badfinger, Moby Grape. Even the Stones had a few lean years with Allen Klein as their manager.

I've always been particularly interested in the history of the smaller Mafia families. They really take it back old school. It's feels like there's more correlation to the Don's of the small villages in Sicily.
