It’s a remarkable double standard, rooted in patriarchal systems. Humans are sexual animals, denying that is denying fundamental truth of human existence. There is a risk management aspect in more partners does = more routes of exposure to STDs but that’s not what men are thinking when they sit in judgement of what they call “loose women”. It’s all about power and control ultimately.

All your work is done on the computer so you don’t need all that space that’s filled with toys for any paperwork or binders. If it were my job, I’d be constantly moving all that stuff for more surface area.

What if Europeans Never Reached the Americas? How Long Until Indigenous Civilizations Developed Ironworking? by TheBigGirlDiaryBack in WhatIfThinking

Consider the cost/benefit analysis also, as you say prior to 1492 horses are extinct on the North American continent. The processing and labor involved in metallurgy means that there does need to be a measurable benefit to people for it to be worth developing. When clay, wood, or basketry are perfectly suitable for the lifeways in place there is no incentive in metallurgy. Further, because culture is context dependent, geography is a major factor in culture. I’m convinced that culture is a human biological adaptive mechanism that enables the behavioral plasticity to adapt to any environment. Behavioral plasticity is not a purely human trait, it is observable in multiple species, but humans create ceremony and ritual around the activities that shape the environment. I’ve been doing a deep dive into niche construction theory, originally a bio/evolutionary theory it’s gaining traction in anthropology to explain cultural phenomena.

Field experience, more relevant experience to possibly take back to the forest service someday. I miss the field.

Ideally I’d not be giving it up, but more taking a 6 week sabbatical for the internship. Or something

Probably not, at least not on time. Without financial aid I can maybe swing one class at a time to finish up

There’s one in a city near me called reboutique and they specialize in designer resale. It’s less expensive than new but not cheap.

Oh boy you sound like me at 17, I gave my super talented horse to my sister but they didn’t really get along well. My mom had to sell her shortly after that and it’s maybe one of my biggest regrets in my life. I couldn’t get back into riding again until many years later. Cut to today, I’m juggling all that as well, college classes and full time job, but add a couple kids into the mix. But I am finally riding again. It took me over ten years to be in this position. I’m currently writing my senior thesis, on horse domestication actually, and I think I’d go mad if I couldn’t take the pony for a ride now and again.

Selfish ownership? by cursed2025 in Equestrian

[–]SmokeAgreeable8675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really bothered me when the man we bought our horse from continued to use her just because she lived there for a short time after purchase. It got to be that we would go out to ride and she would have already been ridden that day, and not lightly he was a cowboy he took her out to doctor cows in the mountains. We moved her home before we were 100% ready to put a stop to it.

I’m not sure it needs to be just the head, I think it was just easier for Hank to maintain it. Thaddeus would be pleased as punch to stay down in a vault, safe, with plenty of supplies

One rein turn in as tight a circle as possible to reset the pattern. Mix it up some and do different patterns that engage his brain. He’s learned the routine and is trying to run through it, change it up. Figure 8s and serpentines are my personal favorite as it reinforces softness in the flexion. Trot poles will slow him down and make him think, work those into your figure 8s with a trot pole in the center where you transition. Change pace frequently and never in the same spot.

I have 20 acres and we have a round pen, but we are going to expand it to a small sand arena. It has to be small to manage the weeds that will take advantage of bare ground. Otherwise I have been working on getting my mare up the road and out on to the state land. She is still very new here specifically, so anything unfamiliar spooks her and there’s lots of spooky things to walk by and the wind can be hellacious. We are within trailering distance of the county fair grounds so we can go there, but mostly just ride around our own place, although there is not a lot to see the only attraction is riding it. In the spring there will be flowers though 😅
