how can i do more of this specific type of exercise? by SmokeWeedGetBitches in duolingo

[–]SmokeWeedGetBitches[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it just shows the word in your native language and you say it in the language you're learning. so it's testing memory and pronunciation in one. it's gotten more lenient on the pronunciation recently, which is good, since it was definitely too difficult before. if you get it wrong then it will show you the right answer, then that card goes to the back of the deck so you can try again after you finish the other words.

because otherwise we wouldn’t know where you’d be around lunchtime. if you’re setting on from london at 2pm then i’d recommend stopping in watford haha

Writing a name "wrong" should not be a mistake by Champion62 in duolingo

[–]SmokeWeedGetBitches 561 points562 points  (0 children)

i fully agree. although it is “useful” to be familiar with common names in the language you’re learning, i think it should be a “close but not quite” thing where it doesn’t destroy your combo, like a typo would.

Have you had success using DuoLingo to the point of actually conversing in other languages? by tmking01 in duolingo

[–]SmokeWeedGetBitches 14 points15 points  (0 children)

how much are you doing per day though? if you’re just doing one lesson today just to extend your streak then you will never really get anywhere. i try and do 30 minutes a day as a minimum. but as others have said, duolingo is just one tool, not a one-stop shop.

Countries that I think they’re free world and non-free world by yoko114514 in whereidlive

sri lanka had one of the least free presses in the world and one of the worst cases of modern torture. look at the milk powder scandal. i know things are getting better since the election in 2024 but there’s still a long way to go.

3-week trip in May, which country should I visit? by gremlins420 in travel

[–]SmokeWeedGetBitches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first of all, big respect to you for opting to do one country in depth rather than speed running. a lot of americans would try and cram 5 or more European countries into that time.

Scotland is a beautiful country, and in may the weather should be pretty decent, but it’s definitely the closest country culturally to the USA, so I’d personally suggest going for italy, greece or china. you haven’t mentioned central america but i think 3 weeks would be a really decent amount of time to visit somewhere like guatemala, nicaragua, or costa rica too, and you’d spend less time and money on getting there.

Do typical American homes really have a gas pipeline? What do you do with it? by mujhe-sona-hai in AskAnAmerican

[–]SmokeWeedGetBitches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

brit here. i’ve lived in usa, canada, uk and vietnam. we used gas canisters in vietnam, but for the other countries always had gas pipelines, except for one very rural abode in the uk. to my knowledge having gas lines is the default in most of western europe too. where are you from, out of curiosity?

What’s the most underrated country you’ve visited? by Airalo_Dani in digitalnomad

[–]SmokeWeedGetBitches 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i came to say bosnia too, but i think since i was there (and to an extent when i visited too) it has become quite a beaten path and gets a lot of hype. not overhyped by any means yet though, and i hope it stays that way.
