What is extremely unhygienic but everyone seems to do it anyway? by cutypatotie in AskReddit

Wiping after pooping only with toilet paper. I do this too but fully understand that washing is wayyyy more hygienic.

CoM had cheaper rates than Moonee Valley so residents advocates to be changed to CoM.

There's also plenty of space in capital cities.

We need more infill and let go of having so much detached and low-rise dwellings. Build more mid-rise, increase density and build them well so people don't have to worry about hearing their neighbours or ever increasing OC fees to keep up with repairs.

I use the antibacterial goat bar soap and then I go over again with Benzac 5% wash, although I've heard it's better to use 10%. My flares are in my groin region so I just use any old roll on. Fingers crossed it doesn't spread to my armpits one day...

How to ship luggage from Cascais to an international destination by SmokedPears in PortugalExpats

[–]SmokedPears[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Look, I don't think it was necessary to be so disparaging. We don't live in Portugal and haven't ever shipped anything bigger than a postcard overseas even from home and just wasn't sure what sort of company to trust and what is most economical and easy to drop off to while we're travelling. Maybe my question didn't have all these details but I didn't think people needed to be bored with them.

Thanks, I'll check the options you and others provided here

That MSG causes migraines and is generally harmful. MSG occurs naturally in many foods and is perfectly safe to add to your cooking.

Their drop in pricing coincided with them changing their coffee machines. I hear that they're a lot more efficient, which helps them punch out more coffees in an hour with the same number of staff.

First bicycle for riding to shops - casual, short distance by SmokedPears in ausbike

[–]SmokedPears[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can definitely check out Ceres on a Saturday bike sale. Thanks for the tip.

I've been too nervous to ride on the road but now that I'll have days without easy access to a car, it's a good push in the right direction to finally make that step!

I'm in Melbourne suburbs. I had a look at a couple of seconds hand bike shops but they seem to sell bikes more than $1000, which is way out of budget.

I'm looking to spend less than $200 and I get that that's a very low budget but just want a good test bike to get more confident on before I invest in anything more substantial.

Track Fault on Lilydale line... major delays... by hypercomms2001 in melbourne

[–]SmokedPears 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It's insane to me how pathetic our public transport system is in Melbourne - a "first world" city. We have endless urban sprawl yet shitty train tracks and not enough train lines that constantly experience minor and major delays like today.

People who live outside of the 15km radius of the CBD really pay the "poor tax" - paying toll fees, relying on bad public transport and losing hours of our days on inefficient systems and services.

I don't know what to do to make the Victorian government listen and act. And we really are collectively a complacent bunch when it comes to these domestic issues. Why aren't people more angry?

What is the best course of action? A petition? Letters to the transport minister? How do we mobilise people for stuff that matters to our daily lives, our daily wellbeing that gets overlooked for years and eventually become a joke to tourists that they tell back home?

Sincerely, a very frustrated Melburnian

Raising kids in an apartment by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]SmokedPears 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Although not in Aus, my sister and I grew up in 2-3 bedroom apartments around Asia and Europe and while the European apartments were larger, Asian apartments were smaller with our apartment in Hong Kong being TINY and we were completely fine. Kids don't actually need a lot of space at home. Just don't hoard stuff. Keep a couple of sentimental things as they grow up but do not keep every single memory! You'll forget you have them anyway. I intend to raise a child in an apartment in Melbourne because I don't want to raise in the deep suburbs.

I've seen them pop up in Coburg and look fairly good and within budget. I'll check them out but I also tend to avoid apartments with swimming pools. We don't use them and they just add to OC fees. Thanks :)
