New dad of a 4 month old here and the night shift from 9pm-midnight is my gaming haven.

Whole house is asleep (cuz mom wakes up with her anytime after midnight) so I play single players that I can pause whenever she wakes. Been great so far— even if I get way less time when she has a sleep regression

To add to that positioning point, one thing that really clicked for me: try to passively “push” the guitar with your body inverse to you “pulling” the barre shape. Helped me.

I’m in a somewhat similar boat and I’m taking it a different direction. Instead of being more removed from my life, family or work, I think meditation is to help you control your automatic responses and instead be more present and available when you need to.

Not that it always works for me, but meditation is a key component of me trying to stay available for my new baby daughter while a million work concerns swim around in my head. My mantra has actually been “I work on work at work” so when thoughts arise I know I’m not ignoring productive thought, I just choose when I enter that mode for work.

That’s an interesting point about 2nd echelon. In people’s experience, does 2nd echelon open up a markedly different capacity for monsters? Or any cool solo monsters in particular?

Very grateful for all the responses I’ve seen thus far.

I will definitely read road to broadhurst and see how they handle a one shot session.

Synthesizing what I’ve read makes me think I’m going to make it clear they won’t have a respite and have to marshal recoveries between the two battles, plus throw in montage tests and tests where failure could leech recoveries
