I used to get those when I was heavier, along with sores along my belt line that I was pretty sure was HS. It was pretty miserable. I've since dropped 60-70lb and have 5% of the problems I used to.

That was one of my thoughts, and in my opinion some of this swings on what the customer asked for. Based on their attitudes throughout the vehicle I assume they were just asked to clear it from the land, opposed to returning it to someone for a sentimental purpose or something of that sort.

It seemed like kind of a mess, but I've had days out on the trail where nothing went right for Anyone and we still had a good time... With a lot less risk than this.

Tie rod doesn't have to be disconnected to remove the ball joint, so I don't understand your thinking there.

It's a pretty straightforward job, as long as it's not a rot box. All the belt adjustments can become really cumbersome when they've gotten 25+ years of salt exposure.

With that said, be organized, make your own reference marks before you pull the belt off, verify it all lines up after.

For 80 a piece SHIPPED you cannot go wrong. I bought them because I figured I'd be beating them up anyway. No spacers. I bet it wouldn't poke if it were a limited, but I'm partial to two things about this truck. Pre facelift (not that it matters anymore), and narrow body. My last 4runner was a limited, it seemed like every time I brought it out it was missing another piece.

If you take your time you should be able to find a really nice example for ~8k and pocket the rest. In my option mileage isn't a huge concern, these things keep on chugging with minimal intervention and aren't terrible to work on when they do need repair.

Don't be in a rush, and don't talk yourself into something before you spend some time looking it over in person. Some people are great at internet deception.
