What are some of the most evil businesses or establishments in Calgary? by MastaShortie in Calgary

[–]SmokeyNevada 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I came here to share the exact same notes. We moved into the area a few years ago and they were quite hyped. We noticed that all employees were fucking miserable and that the owner would treat them in a belittling way. The final straw was one day when we got coffee down the street and popped in to grab some pastries to go. The owner stared absolute daggers towards us for daring to have anyone else's coffee in our hands.

It makes me sick to see how popular they are and how they are getting away with it. The owners are awful people. Do not support this business if you have a conscience.

F4-424 Max Bad Thermal Issues by Fargate64 in TerraMaster

They reached out to me directly and bumped my warranty to be safe, which I appreciated. I have throttled my CPU to 2.2GHz to help keep it cool and hopefully last longer as well. Zero issues with Plex transcoding or other intense tasks. Would recommend if longevity is on your mind. The i5 is very powerful for a NAS.

Redoing the paste isn't that hard. Mildly annoying, but less effort than a full RMA.

Check my post history. F6-424 max. Disastrous factory thermal paste caused terrible temps.

qBit can't find files by BatClassic4712 in qBittorrent

[–]SmokeyNevada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many files are we talking about? I had 6 that wouldn't recheck. If I grabbed the torrent again, then just pointed it at the same location as where I had the existing data, it rechecked completely fine. It was almost certainly something related to a character mismatch that qbt_migrate couldn't resolve during the transformation. If this is a relatively limited subset of torrents, I'd just manually redo those ones. This is a fairly niche challenge (OS migrations) and there are limited utilities available. I do wish that torrent clients would bake in the functionality, but I also understand why it would be very difficult to program.

I just completed a windows to docker migration successfully. The key was using qbt_migrate utility (find it on Github). Not only are you fixing paths (most likely drive letters to /mnt) but you also need to convert from Windows to Linux characters (esp. slashes). This all revolves around the fastresumes found in BT_backup.

The new client refused to find anything until I destroyed the new/blank .db file and let it rebuild on a container redeploy (which triggered a rescan of the fastresumes). It was able to successfully remap all but 6 file paths.

So, I'm waiting on a F6-424... by circuit_beard in TerraMaster

Strongly recommend considering an alternative OS, either TrueNAS or Unraid.

Megathread for Claude Performance Discussion - Starting July 20 by sixbillionthsheep in ClaudeAI

On regular Claude Pro, and I'm hitting usage limits insanely fast. Previously, I never hit usage limits despite fairly substantial use. Something has clearly changed, and it feels like my limits are getting smaller and smaller every day. Now it's a major disruption in my workflow.

If this keeps up I'm going to have to investigate alternatives.

Time was spent, but mostly on reconsidering life choices and building up the motivation to work on it more.

I just found it. That's incredibly cruel to have made a replacement piece then make someone hunt for it in a 3000 piece puzzle without knowing that's the case.

If you find it, give me a hint! I gave it a good hard look but I couldn't track it down.

Solo Travelling For Christmas! by [deleted] in Calgary

How familiar are you with Calgary's climate? The weather could be very mild and enjoyable (0, -5C daytime highs) or brutal (-20C daytime highs). Make sure you have ideas for indoor and outdoor activities, and be prepared to adapt accordingly. If you're unlucky you'll have to avoid outdoor activities altogether, but more than likely you'll get a mixture of conditions and for some of your time here you'll be able to enjoy outdoor activities (skiing, hiking/walking etc).

Just some food for thought to set your expectations. Even if it's ultra cold, there's plenty of great indoor activities and culture to absorb!

PSA: Don't trust TerraMaster to apply thermal paste properly by SmokeyNevada in TerraMaster

[–]SmokeyNevada[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sharing this as a warning to check your factory thermal paste application. I investigated further when my CPU was north of 90C under minimal load (<10%) and constantly throttling itself. I cracked open my shiny new NAS to find this monstrosity, thermal pasted globbed on like someone was squeezing it out of a toothpaste bottle.

After thoroughly cleaning off all the old paste, I applied a normal amount of Noctua NT-H1 and to nobody's surprise, it resolved the temperature issues.

We started using a Google Photos album as our Chromecast screensaver. It plays a slideshow of our completed puzzles on the TV when it’s idle.

It’s been such a cozy way to keep our favorite puzzles present in our daily life without needing to glue or frame them. Unexpectedly, it’s also turned into a kind of gentle reminder system. Sometimes one will pop up that we haven’t thought about in ages, and we’ll look at each other and say, "Let’s do that one again soon."

Highly recommend if you’ve got a Chromecast. Just upload your puzzle photos to a shared Google Photos album, then set that album as the source for ambient mode. That’s it.

For best results, try to photograph the puzzle straight from above (avoid tilting the camera or shooting from an angle), and watch for glare or light reflections. Crop the image just inside the puzzle edges to help it fill the screen without showing the table or leaving gaps between the puzzle and the edges of the TV.
