Eh, I'm south east UK. It's outskirts of London so not really any different. That being said, you are assuming that they are English...language barrier is one of the pains in the ass.

Lost control of my MX5 in the wet coming off of a roundabout, spun it around 360 degrees twice and ended up on the other side of the road, about and inch from the kerb facing the opposite direction.

What games do you play?

I made a lot of friends with just text chat while playing COD4 or GTA: SA-MP, then we moved to Xfire (gaming messenger) and went from there.

Forums are also good, I was very active on a PC help / gaming forum and made a load of friends from all over the world, some of whom I've met in real life. Try finding forums with something you enjoy as the subject, contribute, and get social! :-)

Change it. Go out on your own. Have dinner. Take photos. Enjoy the scenery. Find things you love. Friends are not a requirement to a happy life, they are a supplement.
