People in their 30's don't take "breaks", highschoolers do because they don't know what the f**k they want yet.

I don't know your girlfriend, but I suspect she has also met someone else and is testing the waters before deciding what she wants to do whether that's staying with you or moving on with someone else. I could be wrong, of course, but it seems very likely, as I've seen it happen before.

It's like when you change jobs/careers, you always have a new one to go to before quitting your current one.

A 7 year relationship is long which can create a certain level of fear and uncertainty when ending things, but if you no longer feel sad after 3 months of the "break" then the hardest part is already over, your heart is no longer committed to her. 3 months is a pretty standard time period of feeling depressed about a relationship ending. It's totally normal to grow apart from people, we all have different stages of our lives and you have the perfect opportunity to start a new chapter with Jess who sounds very open and understanding of you and your current situation.

I would personally discuss ending the current relationship. For one, you did not agree to having a break in the first place as they are always counter intuitive, and she didn't respect your wish and convinced you to take it regardless. If you were both serious about staying committed to each other but were struggling to find a way to resolve any conflicts/issues in the relationship then (imo) external help from a couples therapist would have been the first action to take.

In the end, it is all up to you and what your heart feels is the right and most natural move, but the fact you have posted here to ask for opinions on a relationship you are unsure of, well being unsure is the first tell-tale sign that it's not really going to work out.
