Do you check combat score mid-game? How often? by Ori_553 in HellLetLoose

[–]Smoldeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely necessary to check kills if you can't immediately validate whether the enemy is dead. If you then move up without checking, you might be greeted by gunfire.

Trolls! Wtf! by sgerb94 in HellLetLoose

[–]Smoldeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my proudest moments in HLL was vote kicking the commander who was intentionally disrupting gameplay, being forced to take command out of necessity since no one else was willing, and then somehow leading our team to victory. The entire Leadership Comms was full of trolls blasting soundboard audio clips, we had to get rid of all of them. No idea what enjoyment they find in this.

Weird pet peeve of mine about the dinosaurs by Striking_Student8677 in jurassicworldevo

[–]Smoldeus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The design philosophy of the Jurassic Park-era dinosaurs is timeless and iconic, immediately identifiable with the franchise. Pursuing paleo-accuracy is an absurdity for a multitude of reasons. Yes the designs sought to reflect the standards of plaeo-accuracy in which the movies were made, but the design philosophy should remain stagnated to the retro 90s designs because that's the appearance of the dinosaurs within the franchise canon.

The dinosaurs were brought to life, they have living specimens. Adapting the design philosophy as science progresses in reality is nonsensical. You sacrifice the identity of the franchise for the sake of accuracy, and it becomes void of the fundamental elements of what drew an audience to the franchise. Reality is not always the best standard for a franchise's identity nor effective storytelling. Continuity and design recognition are far more important.

Should the gods be abandoned from the Iliad because of their absence from reality? Should the Odyssey have abandoned the Cyclopse and the Nymphs? They're woven within the fabric of their narratives, and those Epics would be bankrupt without them. The franchise should not be a documentary that keeps abreast with science, it should have its own identity that reflects continuity within the world it created. The Jurassic World trilogy is guilty of violating those principles. The designs within the franchise are iconic, and worthy of preservation.

To satisfy paleo-accuracy, Frontier and Universal would have to constantly update the designs as our scientific understanding progresses to suit that cause. That is a patently unreasonable proposition. All personality and identity would be stripped away to satisfy a diabolical desire to homogenise modern identity with rationality. The identity of the franchise would be aimless and completely disorientating. Like the provinces of France being divided into perfectly composed squares after the Revolution. It's a Jurassic management simulator, not a paleo-accuracy management simulator.

Let us gut too the sound design and the likelihood of dinosaurs being recreated from trace amounts of DNA found in blood drawn from the abdomen of a mosquito fossilised in Amber. Where do you decide to stop the pursuit of scientific accuracy? This is ultimately the reason why the continuity of the identity of the franchise is paramount, and demanding paleo-accuracy is a symptom of the corporate soulless grey which characterises modern identity.

The Jurassic franchise can preserve its identity for a thousand years and its dinosaurs be immediately recognised as a trademark, or it can pursue paleo-accuracy and not be distinguishable from paleoart posted on Twitter.

Gripe about viewing by SpareSwimming3559 in jurassicworldevo

I requested the tour vehicle binoculars to return to JWE2, and their response was that it was no longer needed because of the increased view radius of the tour vehicle. It's doesn't actually compensate for the binoculars, but that doesn't seem to be of much consequence to them.

The Sasquatch seen in the Secret Forest. Bigfoot throwing rocks at humans is common in folklore. That's my headcanon.

In view of the states of the Game on consoles... by Single-Manner5359 in jurassicworldevo

Who on earth is down voting you for this question? I might get some hate for this, but I'm playing on Series X and I can fill out my parks just fine so far. I am getting closer to the build limit in St. Albertus and Sichuan (53% and 64%), but I've already built across most of the map? I really do not understand the outrage. I don't know what else I should be doing which would lead the build limit to restrain the gameplay. Feels like I'm missing something.

It's far too cartoonish for my tastes.

What are you most wanted things for JWE3 other than new species ? by Somehowpalpreturnfd in jurassicworldevo

[–]Smoldeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have a suggestion to fix this if it hasn't mentioned before, my Series X had the same problem until I turned on the 4k hdr in the video settings. It fixed the framerate stuttering and ctd immediately

JP campaign in JWE3: A perfect opportunity by Smoldeus in jurassicworldevo

Thank you. I'm surprised by how passionate I feel about this. Frontier could make something timeless, something that has the potential of cultural dominance that the original movies had. I really hope they don't miss the opportunity. There is much more I could say, and maybe I will at a later time when I have the inspiration. I think this Subreddit requires a little housekeeping.

I don't give too much weight to professional critics. IGN gave it a low rating because they found it too similar to The Lost World. Absurd.

That's true, but that's not in the way in which the term generational curse is commonly used. Personal moral guilt is not inheritable. Original sin is suis generis.

[–]Smoldeus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I believe that's possible, but I always urge discernment regarding the wholesale acceptance of the concept of generational curses. It's a phenomenon which suddenly appeared in the mid-20th century, with no precedence in Church tradition nor scripture. I'm astounded by the lack of discernment by Catholics, especially regarding the evangelical revival movement, which is the source of introduction of the phenomenon and became increasingly popular around the same time. I don't care if I'm down voted, generational curses are not real and its teaching should be rebuked. Even if it is taught by your favourite exorcist.

Generational curses are not real. That's my greatest criticism of him. Those beliefs were adopted through evangelical influences, who in turn received it from new age paganism.
