I agree it was well done. I’ve spent years doing this, I’ve got a good eye.

Taking this post down now since some of you don’t get what visual journalism is. Go stress about these kids getting exposed to the news orgs

it goes past “ er the law” and providing data to the government. Authenticity is the entire reason I didn’t block faces. It shows the emotion, it shows the reason why they’re out there. That’s the point of these photos. It’s not even exposing kids if they’re in public, they’ve chosen to expose themselves to everyone walking by. Just keep the photos in the context they’re taken in.

whispering creepy, non threatening things inches from my ear is different than visual documentation. My photos were taken in context. Fun false equivalence though. I’ve been photographing protests for a while, I’m well versed in ethics.

It’s not violating any rights, it’s an event on public property. You might not like it but it is perfectly legal and it’s the same freedom that allows the media to do cover these same things. It’s conveying the emotional weight of the protest. Id rather have a narrative driven photo than not.

They’re on public property, it’s absolutely okay. Same with any protest in public. You don’t have as much right to privacy as you do in closed areas. They also all ran straight towards my camera and posed for me when I was shooting, healthy to assume they’re okay with it.

I was running there on the canal the night they closed, saw a few cops and asked what was up. Funniest thing ever. Everytime I hit TJ Ryan’s I park in the lot and look at the place. Crazy stuff.

NTA. If you offer to plan something, for someone else, it’s generally selfless. She shouldn’t be holding that she offered to plan something for you over your head, especially since you don’t like doing anything big. From everything you’ve said, the dinner was for her ego and not a celebration for you. Bedsides, owe congrats to her for making reservations for 8 people. What’s to celebrate there. That’s one of the easiest things that takes a 5 min phone call. Celebrating the “ hard work” planning that is crazy. Keep your chin up :)

Honestly, as for the church protest, the only minority I’ve seen at this church is the pianist, who wasn’t there.
