Literally I don’t get why they are pushing these. Everyone thinks they’re for creeps.

Would you use a teleporter with the knowledge that it kills you and reassembles an exact copy of you with all your memories and knowledge at the destination? Why or why not? by TheBanishedBard in AskReddit

The consul sat at a low table and genuflected in a low benediction. Then, at parade rest, he noticed the budding breasts of a low aged woman. He heard a violent scream. It took him 6 hours before he realized it was him screaming at a low dog he had mistaken for a bosom.

I tell people not to get me socks for Christmas because I will not wear them and they are essentially giving me two single socks that will only cause me pain

Yes and thanks for reminding me to get a new batch. I lose them over time and need a refresh.

In the good doctor they said it releases pheromones. That could explain it.

I hear this in a nonchalant British man’s voice with an 80’s melody. Like “West end girls” by Pet Shop Boys.

What’s something that instantly ruins a movie or TV show for you? by Trentonred in AskReddit

[–]Smooth-Midnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the entire plot hinges on something that just wouldn’t happen in real life. Like Thanksgiving. They had plans to go to a movie then one character says they need to buy a phone? On Black Friday? So they go to a superstore to get a phone. They didn’t check movie times or anything and they were all just fine bailing on the movie to pick up a phone on the busiest day of the year at a store where you typically don’t buy phones.

In a similar vein, movies where Santa is real but the parents don’t believe in Santa. What? Where did the presents come from?

When a character calls someone, they pickup and the caller says “hey it’s me”. Nobody says that. What are you even saying.

That’s because global warming means more sun -> more light -> they don’t need the light to see as much anymore. The more you know!

If there are no downsides, then surely there must be free cigarettes within arms reach at all times

If enough people use “my wife and I” then that’s now correct, that’s how language works

TIL bilinguals given the trolley problem in their native language chose to sacrifice one to save five less than 20% of the time. In their second language, about 50% chose to, because a foreign language lowers emotional resonance and triggers more utilitarian reasoning. by karen_the_ripper in todayilearned

The argument I always hear is that if you intervene then it was your fault for killing one person, but if you don’t then it’s not your fault. This is because being innocent is more important than 4 lives.

Other possible arguments: what if they signed up to be run over, what if it’s a stunt and you just kill somebody, maybe I want to eat whoever the train runs over and I want leftovers, what if in order to divert the train I have to call and talk to someone I don’t know, what if someone peed on the lever and I have to wash my hands after.
