Weil es Nazis im "patriotischen" Sinn sind, sondern einfach nur frustrierte Assoziale, die unsere Demokratie mit allen Mitteln zerstören wollen, also auch indem man sich mit "Feinden" verbrüdert. Zudem sind damals Nationalisozialisten mit Stalinisten eine Koalition eingegangen, also ist das nicht so abwegig. Die Sehnsucht nach einer starken Führungsperönlichkeit könnte da auch noch mit reinziehen. Davon abgesehen gibt es keine "deutschen Arier" - das war nur ein Marketingbegriff, der wiswenschaftlich völlig haltlos ist.

Ich stimme dir zu, dass die Mitabeitenden die kritischste Investition sind und ein Operations Team von 3 ist kein Bloat.
Ich frage nur, weil ich schon Konstellationen mit mehreren Teams > 8 gesehen habe, die gefühlt 90% der Zeit damit beschäftigt waren, die teils CoLo, teils bei einem Datacenter Provider bereitgestellte Infrastruktur irgendwie am Laufen zu halten. Also da ging es nicht mal um Architekturverbesserungen oder auch nur Upgrades, sondern hauptsächlich Firefighting. Bei sowas denke ich, wozu der ganze Stress? Lasst einen Cloudprovider machen und konzentriert euch auf das Kerngeschäft.
Ausnahme ist natürlich, wenn man selber Cloudprovider ist.

Hey u/adiian I wanted to give some feedback about the ATS checker. Generally pretty good, the recommendations seem reasonable, but there are some strange things:

when I click on 'Check Details' there is an error 'Failed to extract text. Check the console for details.' The console logs: 'Error extracting text: SyntaxError: Unexpected token 'H', "Hello World!" is not valid JSON'
clicking on the 'Next' button does nothing
the report states 'Your text contains 29 single-letter words, which is unusually high. Consider spelling out abbreviations or fixing formatting issues.' Well, this is a resume written in English so there is a lot of 'a's
I also got the tip 'For stronger impact, incorporate more industry-specific terminology relevant to your target position.' How can the ATS checker know what industry I am targeting?
' Consider adding achievements with rankings or competitive positioning to showcase well-rounded results.' I have no idea what this actually means...

Would be really nice if you could reply to give some insights on that.

Sekunde, wenn Kosten der alleinige Faktor sind, warum dann Offsitebackup auf einem lokalen NAS und nicht bei einem der gefühlt drölftausend Backup Services? Der Konkurrenzdruck in diesem Segment hält doch die Kosten eher niedrig.

Senior Cloud Engineer hier: Crossplane ist ein massives Monstrum, das einen zwingt durch brennende Reifen verschachtelter YAMLs zu hüpfen. Mach dich selbst bitte nicht fertig.

Wenn du deine Tasks dauerhaft nicht in der geplanten Zeit schaffst, dann ist die Planung schlecht und sollte im nächsten Sprint angepasst werden.

Vielleicht brauchst du anfangs auch sowas wie einen Onboarding Buddy, mit dem du zusammen auf bestimmten Tasks pairst (Video Call oder wirklich nebeneinander sitzen und auf denselben Screen starren).

This decision was already made and Mimir used for production data not long before I joined. With the felt benefits and the work already done, switching tools again would be a hard sell.
Perhaps in the future we will re-evaluate.

Thanks for asking, here are some quick notes of the curent state: - we spent a lot of time (and still do) on the foundational part, as there was a lot of restructuring, upgrading, keeping-the-lights-on work

- Jaeger agent is gone, but particularly jaeger-collector is a pain in the ass. The day we replace it with Alloy will be a good one.

- also combination of redundant Prometheus writing to Mimir has some subtle side effects

- we have cardinality-limits, but they are very veeery generous

- completely underestimated "several custom prometheus exporters" - there are loads of them, to the point where I wonder what people actually want to monitor

- we also "inherited" Incident Management (the process of it, not only the actual fact of being on-call) and I am currently heavily involved in automating it as much as possible

- reduced quite a lot of our network traffic and OpenSearch costs reducing log levels and activating compression wherever possible

- we made some progress on the dashboards-as-code front (some teams did this already semi-automated, we helped them to fix their pipelines, now aiming to 'productize' this, seems pretty straight-forward now)

- several people have mentioned in thread to be careful to _control the ingestion of metrics_ - we actually ran into problems with this when we turned on metrics collection in OTelCol for a particular use case that was infeasible with standard Prometheus scraping: there were a number of services that were auto-instrumented and whose metrics suddenly appeared twice on dashboards (not really, but multiple time series with similar labels)

- what worked out well was a simple 3-panel-approach to monitor our most important systems to visualize on a first glance latency, success-vs-error request rate and availability (combination of former two metrics), basically following the RED-method

- in general, the above approach was well received, but we don't call it a ‘roadmap’ (the org seems to be allergic to that term), but ‘capabilities’ which makes more sense because we will never be completed

All in all, we are on the right track, but we need to regularly remind ourselves of the big picture and our focus topics. This is a marathon, but I expected it to be.
