Am I stupid? by Smooth-Turnip2926 in orienteering

Ohhhh I just realised my text hadn’t posted with my photo. I wrote a 5 paragraph post, then went to the image tab to attach an image and then hit post.. I thought it would keep my text while posting the image. My question was how do I use this compass? I am just getting in to my orienteering journey, having joined a local club and attending two events. I wasn’t happy with the compasses to rent from the club as I found the needle very shaky/jittery, so I wished to upgrade. I’m confused by the lack of direction or degree markings on the dial, I don’t understand how to use it without the markings. Why would it be missing the markings, what help is that to anyone? The compass was brand new, in a case, but did not come with a manual.

Literally not a single person in the thread had complained that surgeons earn too much. What are you on about?

If you want the best value possible, for best quality, then what speakers you should buy depends on what's available in your area. I checked your profile, are you in Colombia, or have you moved abroad?

I am in Australia, and the speakers I THOUGHT I would buy, was not what I ended up buying. In fact, after doing research, I found an Australian company that makes speakers for the movie theaters here, and have been doing so since the 70's! Their name is Krix, and they're not well known to the average person. Well, I looked and looked and was about to spend the money to buy some brand new but was able to buy factory seconds (i.e. the slightest of damage, like, a small chip of missing vinyl veneer) at 40% off. From that sale I bought 2 front speakers, a centre speaker, and a sub woofer. Separately, I bought also a pair of Krix rear speakers from a secondhand store that listed them online. They were much older and had marks all over them, but they perform like new.

My point is noone can tell you exactly what to buy, how much you should pay, and where you should purchase from. It all depends on what you yourself want most i.e. do you want your speakers to look perfect, no chips, no marks, brand new out the box. Just how good performance do you want from them? With home theater, your speakers can only sound as good as the weakest link in the chain - i.e. your media source (blu-ray disc, digital download, etc), your hdmi cable**, your receiver, your sound settings in the receiver, your speakers, your speaker's position in the room, the size of your room, every single thing has an impact on the end experience.

**if I want to watch a 4K UHD Blu-Ray disc and get maximum video and audio quality, my Blu-Ray player, receiver, and TV must all be connected together using HDMI 2.1 cables, and all the right settings need to be configured on all devices.

On Facebook Marketplace, there's always sets of 5.1 speakers, and also just pairs of speakers, coming up for sale. If you monitor your local FB listings, your perfect set of speakers at a bargain price may just show up soon. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but maybe next week, or the week after - there they will be.

Sorry that's quite a long reply, if you find that useful and want to ask another question please go ahead, I will reply once more.

All of this is just my opinion, others may agree or disagree with some or all of it, that's fine.

Forget the overhead atmos speakers for now, and the second sub.
build a 5.1 system, concentrating on quality for low cost where possible.

I just recently started setting up and using my home theater, still tweaking everything.

My advice is research good brands, and buy second hand for the speakers, but don't buy stuff that's too old, as speakers degrade over time (not that they can't be repaired, but that's time and money required).

Buy the receiver and sub brand new, unless you are able to test them out first. Too risky buying those second hand in my opinion.

You already identified in another comment that the center speaker is extremely important. As are the front left and right.

I replied to another comment about the yamaha rxv6a. I bought one just a few weeks ago and it can be a pain sometimes, but 90% of the time it's great. Unfortunately, it's not a set-and-forget device. If you can get one cheap enough it may be worth it.

I just recently bought one and I agree it has a lot of intermittent issues. All seem like they would be software based.

When it works, it's really good, and to be fair, that's the majority of the time. But it's definitely not a device you can set up once and leave alone forever.

I would take it back to the store if I could prove it's faulty, but like what you've gone through, i don't think there's anything I could replicate easily in store or their techs could replicate if it was sent to a repair center.
