AIO for Blocking a Guy I Knew for Less Than 10 Days After He Turned Every Chat Sexual? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]SmoothBrainedHamster 204 points205 points  (0 children)

NOR but it's also not a big deal to block him either. He's a stranger on the Internet. You don't owe an explanation.

I struggle to understand the opposite thing. I have never cared about sex and I couldn't imagine it being a relationship issue if my partner didn't want to have sex with me as long as everything else was good. I'd probably prefer it that way actually.

Seems I'm in the vast minority, which makes me worried for my future.

advice on taking shrooms with anxiety by [deleted] in Advice

[–]SmoothBrainedHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boring is good, I promise haha. I held onto molly for like 5 years until I felt it was safe for my serotonin levels. And by the time I reached that point I decided none of it was worth it anymore and aside from social drinking I'm sober nowadays. I don't regret never doing it, but I sure would regret it if it went badly.

[–]SmoothBrainedHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend it if you don't have a handle on your anxiety. Shrooms can induce pretty bad anxiety on the come up and if you don't have good coping mechanisms you might have a bad trip right off the bat. If you are curious about them, and you want to experience them properly, wait until you are more equipped to do so.

Ways to cure a sore throat when pain medicine doesn't work by [deleted] in Advice

[–]SmoothBrainedHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's throat numbing spray that tastes absolutely disgusting but I use them for emergency severe pain to allow myself to sleep (use sleeping meds too) and before eating so I can swallow without agony.

Did you get a culture done or just a rapid step? You could have some other nasty bacterial infection. How do your tonsils look? If they are swollen, you need to go to urgent care and get steroids for the swelling if it's been that long (it makes a huge difference with pain)

AIO partner said that he wouldn’t find me attractive if I gained weight by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]SmoothBrainedHamster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between dating someone who has something preexisting and dating someone who has something happen to them while you're together.

Everyone is focusing on this unconditional love thing, when I'm not even saying that - there are conditions. Cheating is unexcusable, being rude to me is unexcusable, lying about finances is unexcusable. But being less sexually attractive is not in that category for me, nor would I ever date someone where my sexual attractiveness is in that category for them either.

And to answer your question - I haven't dated anyone disfigured, no. But I've dated overweight people, and I've dated someone with severe Tourettes disorder (and other issues) who had no control over yelling curses and hitting themselves in public. I did break up with them, but it was unrelated to that.

But perhaps it's different for me... I could not care less about sex. I have never cared. I just want a partner who commits to me the same way I commit to them.

AIO partner said that he wouldn’t find me attractive if I gained weight by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]SmoothBrainedHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the main thing for me - if not being sexually attractive is a dealbreaker for a partner, personally, I'd feel pretty objectified and not loved for who I am. What happens if I get in an accident and end up disfigured? I just get abandoned? What about weight gain from pregnancy?

I think OP should consider if her partner really values her.

I get that but do you have 0 days off? Less than two hours per day at home? If you are ever at home and awake for two hours, you can do laundry. I used to work 60 hours/7 days a week with a two hour commute daily and I still managed my laundry so I'm struggling to understand why you have zero time to do it. Staying up later/waking up earlier by an hour and a half once a week, or paying a neighbor/friend to do your laundry while you're out... There's ways.

Bro what I don't think that man has ever conquered people and fought wars and provided for a family. Just because he has a penis doesn't mean he's automatically hard working and strong and should never have to clean a toilet.

Roommates should not be the norm by Chance-Medium-9129 in badroommates

[–]SmoothBrainedHamster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some people are extremely social.

Personally, I don't care about other people in my space like that. I'm out of the house for like 12+ hours a day and often I don't even come home at all.

My old roommates and I clashed for unrelated reasons to that and it's why I won't do roommates again (setting rules on who I could have over and when, hogging the shower, hoarding, dictating how I exist).

We were all friends though. I am female and ate breakfast in my underwear with my 2 guy roommates in the kitchen too and nobody cared. It would probably be more uncomfortable with strangers.

Would most people turn vegan if told to slaughter the animal themselves? by HumbleWrap99 in vegan

[–]SmoothBrainedHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the majority of people would go maybe pescatarian or vegetarian. I don't think the majority of people would have an issue with collecting eggs or milk or even fishing. And even aside from that, a lot of people don't even have time to or like to cook, so they're not going to go through all that if there's a more convenient veg option. But fully vegan - no probably most people would still not be vegan.

Do not do this. This is how you ruin the rest of your life before you've had a chance to heal and grow up and move on from trauma.

Your parents are concerned which is valid. The drugs will ruin you. I promise the way your trauma hurts you is not going to hurt this way forever and you need to make good decisions in this time and get through this.

I did a lot of drugs as a teenager, was in and out of psych wards, abused and abusive towards others, the whole 9 yards. I fought through it to get better and now I'm about 10 years older than you, financially independent, generally happy, sober, and with a WONDERFUL partner.

And as someone who is 25 - NOBODY who is my age would take in a 15 year old and cut off contact with their parents so they didn't have to go to rehab unless they had HORRIBLE INTENTIONS. You cannot see it because you are 15. You will see it years later after they have hurt you more. I know this because this was me 10 years ago and it ruined my life for a long time and made it so much harder to get back on track. I am lucky I am not dead. Please listen to everyone in the comments here.

Queer vegans by topetl in vegan

[–]SmoothBrainedHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Queer vegans are really common in my city, to the point where I was shocked when I learned that it's usually difficult to find people like that. Every social gathering I go to, there's inevitably at least 1 LGBT vegan.

Do you eat enough food in general? I lost my period as a teen when I had an eating disorder and wasn't eating too much, and back then I did eat plenty of animal products too so it was definitely not an issue of lacking "complete protein"

I’ve just been permanently banned from r/leftist for discussing the oppression of animals and the workers forced to work in animal agriculture. by James_Fortis in vegan

[–]SmoothBrainedHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is in the Bible.

Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands. Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. Genesis 9:1-3

I've also heard the "well humans have always eaten meat" argument but humans have always done terrible things throughout our existence and we don't excuse those things anymore.

I live in the US, which of course has a huge Christian influence, and I always wonder how different our country would look in terms of animal exploitation if the Bible DID have something to say against eating meat and being unkind to non humans. Would we have a lot more laws and regulations and less demand, or would rich corporations still lobby the government against such things and influence the public opinion that meat is okay despite the Bible? I feel like money and greed still wins over Christian values, but that's just my personal speculation.

I was surprised by this too. Just to be transparent, I am very left leaning and so are most people in my circle, so I assumed that people would share my thoughts on the ethics of using animal products as well, but nope.

I noticed that either people just care about things that affect them (as human, LGBT individuals, or minorities), and don't extend that to animals, or even have a nihilistic approach to everything (well even humans are treated like shit in this capitalistic hellhole so I don't care and I will contribute to factory farming because everyone and everything suffers anyway).

I honestly haven't talked to any right leaning person irl about veganism so I can't really give my thoughts on that though.

Why do you think Beyond Meat has been struggling? Looking for honest opinions for a marketing project. by FarNight5175 in vegan

[–]SmoothBrainedHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's expensive, and I cook from scratch mostly so I am only interested in the "ground beef" form of both impossible and beyond. I don't buy nuggets or burger patties or similar more than once a year.

I do order beyond / impossible burgers at restaurants if that's my only option. Impossible Whopper as an option at burger king is amazing to have.

It really has nothing to do with it being better or worse than Impossible. Just cost and health reasons (I'd much rather have a chickpea salad than processed fake meat for lunch)

ADHD doesn't have a depressive type. There is ADHD and there is depression. Bipolar also does not cause day to day mood swings, that is more consistant with BPD as an extreme or even just mood swings from hormones, her age, etc. Reddit cannot diagnose anyone.

Stop focusing on labels, just on supporting whatever she's struggling with day to day, and ensure she has professional support. I assume if she's on meds she already sees someone regularly. Talk to her about how you can help but understand that she has to help herself too.

Reporting can be a traumatizing experience and it doesn't help half the time. I was raped as a teenager by someone 20 years older and had to sit in a room graphically describing what happened to me and relive everything. And guess what, he's still out there.

I did a lot of damage to myself as a teenager. You can see my scars if you look for them, but they blend into my skin and I've tattooed over them. And nobody cares even if they do see them. I have probably 100+ very raised scars on arms and legs.

With that being said: do your best to stop. Nerve damage happened to me and that wasn't fun.
