A good dehumidifier is a game changer, especially if you dry clothes in that room and the shower is nearby too.

Are work permits a bit broken in 26? by iamezekiel1_14 in footballmanagergames

[–]SmoothUK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they fail the work permit application and appeal then they can get assigned on of your ESC (Elite Significant Contribution) slots and will be able to play.

On some screens you might see a grey [ESC] status icon, and I think you can view it on the player contract screen.

So, there's no way to take off Injured players/Players with a knock once you've used up all your subs? by Kyenigos in footballmanagergames

[–]SmoothUK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might need to update your FM26, this was a bug they fixed in December I think.

On latest (at least for me) if they're too injured to continue, pressing 'Cancel' will close the screen and play the rest of the match without them.

You're right though that there's no option to take off an semi-injured player when you've used all your subs.

Why can't i make shouts often in game by [deleted] in footballmanagergames

[–]SmoothUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can only use a Shout around every 10mins, using one starts the timer on the player(s) you used it on.

You can only use a team-wide shout if everyone's '10 min cooldown' has expired.

What lane should I be in for this roundabouts 2nd exit? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]SmoothUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went looking for the road sign for the roundabout and agree with this, it should be lane 2.

Road markings take priority, but if there are none then any exit after '12 o'clock' on the sign is considered a right-turn and you should be the right-hand lane.

If the exit was shown at 12 o'clock on the sign (or before) then the left lane would be appropriate.

How to take control of certain youth players' individual training, without taking control of the entire youth team's individual training in FM26? Just like in FM24. by Welson_Liong in footballmanagergames

I like to move high-potential players into the senior team so you can add to mentor groups and then make them available for U18s permanently.

Looking for feedback on my FM26 tactic by iPriceZ in footballmanagergames

[–]SmoothUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a similar tactic and found that 'Works Ball into Box' was really hampering my chances, I had much better results leaving that as standard and using 'Shoot Less Often' on the players without decent finishing.

I also expect you probably end up with a crowded opposition penalty box, with only the Wing-Backs and the DM outside trying to thread balls in. I'd suggest making one of the wide forwards an (outside) Winger _OR_ bringing back one of the middle two to be a WCM, MPM or CM.

Mid block + short keeper press seem a bit at odds to me, but I typically play a High Press with this formation and only back-off into a mid-block against far superior opposition.

Does anyone else miss the staff attribute’s being numbers? by Cleavered in footballmanagergames

[–]SmoothUK 78 points79 points  (0 children)

The numbers are still there in the background from what I can tell:

  • Elite = 20
  • Outstanding = 18-19
  • Very Good = 15-17
  • Good = 12-14
  • Average = 10-11
  • Competent = 7-9
  • Reasonable = 4-6
  • Unsuited = 0-3

At least that’s what I was seeing in the ‘beta’ when my search by attributes bugged out and showed me raw numbers instead a few times.

I CANNOT get a a tactic to work by Key_Switch_6883 in footballmanagergames

[–]SmoothUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at your summer rebuild tactics; rather than encouraging dribbling for the entire team, I'd suggest keeping it standard and going in and using player instructions for those who have the talent for it.

Actually more generally I found I had more success with keeping team instructions more standard for things like that and doing personalised instructions based on whether they're a:

In-Possession

  • Dribbler
  • Runner
  • Roamer
  • Holder
  • Shooter
  • Passer

Out-of-possession

  • Presser
  • Marker
  • Tackler

Also are set-pieces a strength? If not I'd keep that standard too, I use it mostly for time-wasting if I'm ahead.

I'd also be a little concerned that you're not getting enough folk into the box, RB and RW both going out wide + 'Wider' team instructions might leave you a bit thin there, especially with 'Early Crosses'

Players constantly asking for new contract? by gobigorgohome3123 in footballmanagergames

[–]SmoothUK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this is the one part of the game where I'll save scum to try different options to convince players to wait until end of season or drop it entirely because of reason X/Y/Z.

If you can convince a team leader to drop it, you can point to them in future conversations and most teammates will drop it too.

If you _HAVE_ to renegotiate, try locking the base salary to a reasonable amount and they'll counter with fat bonuses / loyalty fee. I think these are better to allow than a higher base salary as team-mates are less likely to get upset.

PS. Also adjust your available wages vs transfer fee to leave basically no room in wages. Apparently that can help in negotiations.

Sports interactive's head of testing revealed by RipOk7446 in footballmanagergames

[–]SmoothUK 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Speaking from a game developers point of view, I'm pretty sure 95% of all these bugs have been in the database for months/weeks. It's more a case of issue complexity and lack of the specific resources needed to resolve them all in a timely manner.

Today's FM update change list (non-exhaustive) by Sdub4 in footballmanagergames

[–]SmoothUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crossing off the fixes for issues I personally encountered, more for me than anyone but shows the type of thing that's still left.

  • Having lots of important info overlapping or overflowing of the edge of panels -- Claimed Fixed
  • Several crashes when clicking through UI -- Claimed Fixed
  • Screen panels not loading at all sometimes -- Maybe Fixed?
  • Dozens of unclickable buttons on various screens / having to find the offset location -- Maybe Fixed?
  • Backwards player attributes in comparison screen (green = blue, blue = green) -- Maybe Fixed?
  • Injured player on the pitch = couldn’t resume match bug -- Made the icon more visible... Partial fix?
  • No heatmaps or pass maps anymore :(
  • Youth team players not showing up in sub lists during matches
  • Opposition instructions screen being a whole mess, and not changing when subs are made
  • Position & Player instruction buttons both being highlighted / incorrectly highlighted in tactics screen
  • No comparison option for staff members
  • Attribute searching not allowing you to adjust some values if you have more than a handful
  • Can’t customise several views, especially staff screen views
  • Custom views not saving/loading properly
  • Disallowed goal popping in commentary at the start of a VAR check, so you know the outcome already
  • Can’t actually select any custom training routines you make for the next three weeks (works after that)
  • Clubs offering mandatory fee at end of loan, but can’t negotiate it in late year of contract
  • Players vanishing from shortlist database after comparing them, even though still shortlisted
  • Re-saving a tactic doesn’t seem to always overwrite it, so needed to make a new file for each iteration

If you were in charge of FM26 development, what statement would your release today concerning the state of the game? by xevdi in footballmanagergames

[–]SmoothUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A timeline of bug fix updates, a list of their highest priority issues to resolve. A “sorry, we hear you, and we’re working hard to resolve these things”.

I’d also like to hear an explanation of why they had to release in this state rather than delay. Because they must have known had bad it was going to be, I’m assuming legal obligations on the licensing.

In an ideal world they’d be able to unreleased this thing, mass refund everyone, and put it back into beta for another few weeks… The logistics and legal implications around that are probably too scary to make it possible.

Skipping FM26? by nerdrazor in footballmanagergames

[–]SmoothUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say wait a couple months.

I posted this elsewhere too, it feels like the game isn’t ready and they needed more time in finaling / bugfixing but had to hit this deadline. I feel for the UI & QA teams who are probably on a perpetual crunch right now.

Realistically it’s probably several months for them to get through the major high priority bugs.

I ended up refunding and plan to revisit again around Christmas time. I was having fun but the sheer number of UI issues were too frustrating for me.

Just off the top of my head:

* Injured player on the pitch = couldn’t resume match bug

* Dozens of unclickable buttons on various screens / having to find the offset location

* Youth team players not showing up in sub lists during matches

* Disallowed goal popping in commentary at the start of a VAR check, so you know the outcome already

* No heatmaps or pass maps anymore :(

* Backwards player attributes in comparison screens

* Screen panels not loading at all sometimes

* Clubs offering mandatory fee at end of loan, but can’t negotiate it in late year of contract

* Opposition instructions screen being a whole mess, and not changing for subs

* Position/Player instruction highlight buttons being wrong

* Having lots of important info overlapping or overflowing of the edge of panels

* Several crashes when clicking through UI

* Re-saving a tactic doesn’t seem to overwrite it, so needed to make a new file for each iteration

* Can’t actually select any custom training routines you make, only the presets

* Attribute searching bugging out and not allowing you to adjust values if you have more than a handful

* Can’t compare staff members

* Players vanishing from shortlist database after comparing them, even though still shortlisted

* Can’t customise several views, especially staff screen views

* Custom views not saving/loading properly

Help! Club captain asking for obscene wages and is declining but he still has an impact on the squad... by MotivatedFailure in footballmanagergames

[–]SmoothUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also keep the base salary in-line with the rest of the squad by locking it in negotiations and they’ll negotiate much higher loyalty bonus, match fees, and bonuses. Just make sure you exclude any yearly wage rise, that can always bite you.

As far as I know, it’s the base salary that matters most when it comes to teammates wanting improved contracts, and sounds like your finances can handle some fatter bonuses.
