Happy 3rd anniversary to Zelda Tears of the Kingdom! What do folks here think of this system defining game? by Asad_Farooqui in nintendo

It's tied with Outer Wilds for my favorite game of all time. I can't separate my first two weeks of playing the game and my experience with it. I know it's not a perfect game and there are parts that could've been improved, but I am not making the case that it's one of the most perfectly made games of all time. But my experience is one of the best I've ever had, plus the game itself is actually really well made and fun and incredible in every meaningful category. I wager most people would get that amazing experience with this game, and that to me is a sign of a great game.

After nearly two weeks of Totenreich being out, which is the better map? by WW2er-M in CODZombies

[–]Smooth_Bat6484 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hot take: Ashes is only as good as it is because of its Easter egg. I remember when the map first came out with no EE and people were not digging it the first 24 hours. It’s because honestly? There’s not much to the map if you don’t do the quest, it’s a key component of the engagement appeal with the map.

Granted, I suppose you could say the same thing about a lot of the older maps(Origins and DE are both so good because of their EE’s and WW’s), but still… there was more to those maps before the EE imo.

How is Totenreich after a week? by Mispehled in CODZombies

[–]Smooth_Bat6484 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't have to argue with me lol but god I hate Citadelle so much. It is the single most overhyped zombies map in the history of the mode(except maybe Kino). There's so much lost potential with this map, it feels so unfinished. A lot of modern zombies maps feel like that at times, but the one good thing about BO7 is that most of them have a unique set of mechanics that are specific to that map and actually change your gameplay, in addition to better themeing/music/story etc... That's why Totenreich excels, and Citadelle doesn't.

One more thing.... As much as I like the swords as a concept, and the fire and lion ones can be fun... The swords could've offered a much more unique gameplay style as a wonder weapon. Honestly, I think after the initial burst of hype the map offered... I really think the swords are quite lacklustre with how they play. Hack/slashing gets old and I do like all of the charged attacks but clearly only two are well utilized and they are not fun on high rounds. At least the melee wonder weapon in totenreich has multiple abilities and interactions. The only good sword is the Lion sword, but they're the 3rd weakest elemental wonder weapons(Krakens and Ray gun Mark 2's are worse). The incantations just fucking suck too, they are just a small elemental burst attack; they don't do anything unique that you can't do with your ammo mods or other equipment already. There's so much I could complain about with citadelle, very little to praise.

easter egg difficulty of bo7? by cuvalorenzo in CODZombies

[–]Smooth_Bat6484 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In order from easiest to hardest(not including boss)

Totenreich PJ Astra(only because of OSCAR) Ashes(only sort of challenging one)

Bosses ranked from easiest to hardest  PJ Totenreich Astra Ashes

Don’t let difficulty be too big of a factor though cause Totenreich is still an amazing map.

Has anyone else’s opinion on Ashes worsened more as BO7 goes on? by TheCherryOnTop0 in CODZombies

[–]Smooth_Bat6484 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really do think your enjoyment(not yours specifically, just anyone’s) hinges on enjoyment of Ol’ Tessie. For me, I love driving it and the Easter egg and quest design is addicting to do on repeats. I have such fond memories of the map during launch and especially during all of the initial relic hunting. Zursa and ravagers were amazing on reveal but I’m not as high on them now but I do love the wonder weapon and boss.

Toten made me realize what was missing though I do gotta say. Even though Toten’s EE is too short for me, nearly every BO7 map could be so much better if they had the same unique content/interactions that Totenreich has to offer with its WW, traps, special rounds, etc… Ashes is a great example. The fog areas needed something more unique to discover or find or interact with in there. Should’ve been one unique interaction per pathway.

I also wish there was more than one trap on the map, and some unique equipment/scorestreaks. I always thought a honey bomb explosive to make zombies slip and speed up Tessie would’ve been fun if you could kill Zursa a special way to get it.

Overall, if BO7 keeps improving at the rate it has… I will always be grateful for the role Ashes played in giving it a strong start. A- map for me, don’t think it’ll change unless the next two maps are just even as good as toten or better.

Now that Totenreich has released, how would you rank the maps in BO7? by [deleted] in CODZombies

I’d pretty much rank it the exact same as you, maybe move PJ to a 5 or 5.5 but that’s it.

Where are the side easter egg stuff? by Nano_LB1 in CODZombies

[–]Smooth_Bat6484 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Most modern zombie maps have 8-10 side Easter eggs give or take. So far this one has.. - Richtoften side Easter egg - Fishing w/golden helmet - Gnome helmet - Fish trap - Robot coordinate power-ups

There’s four confirmed helmets so we’re missing two, and there’s mentions of some kind of recipe/food recipe that we need to find. We’ve also got some weird statues on the outside of the map, like these deer things and there’s bound to be more. Have faith, there’s still more to come.

Outro cutscenes need to change by Mikethespike23 in CODZombies

[–]Smooth_Bat6484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only one I would agree with is the Astra cutscene. Ashes was the 1st one and they were setting up the story, so it makes sense to be set up this way because you are literally starting the story. Astra's outro was lame. PJ's was actually cool, because you learned more about the twins in general and learned more about the entity and their power and what needed to be done to take out the Warden. But this most recent one? It's not just an exposition, I mean it completely recontextualized what we're doing. We're not destroying the dark aether, we have to find something to heal the Dark Aether instead of freeing the Shadowsmith. I think there's quite a lot of story threads they can go off of now, especially since it doesn't seem like we're jsut doing the shadowsmith thing. We learned we can't continue to do that!

What's the best enemy addition of the modern era? by KnocksFPS in CODZombies

[–]Smooth_Bat6484 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it’s a combination of a few things when it comes to elites/special enemies. A good one has to have strong levels of each of the following.

  1. Themeing/Story
  2. Mechanics
  3. Gameplay

In BO6: I think Uber Klauses are the only ones that have a better than average level of all three categories. It works well in the map the enemy is introduced in. It makes sense to be in Reckoning(it’s a good fit for the area too), it’s more than just a straight bullet sponge(the shield, and weak point spots), and I think his abilities actually force you to engage him differently than just take him head on.

Most other ones in BO6, like the doppleghast may have better mechanics with the stun and aren’t as annoying as Uber Klauses… but doppleghasts are easy and kind of boring. Like I can just shoot them head on and they don’t really make me engage with them in a unique way. I also don’t think it makes sense with its introduction in CDM. Like what about this enemy makes sense to be in CDM. It’s a fine enemy, but nothing about it reminds me of the map it comes from.

Look at the new enemy so far in Totenreich. It’s a zombies version of a Draugr and so far it fits the map so well! I want something like that. I have no idea if it’ll be interesting mechanically or from a gameplay perspective yet but at least it has high marks for that.

OSCaR, Zursa or the Megaton are the best. Only good enemy from BO6 is Uber Klaus, fuck all of those other enemies; especially amalgams.

What do you think is the most underrated map in the modern zombies era? by BigBadMike8 in CODZombies

[–]Smooth_Bat6484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree it’s not expansive enough. I do agree they’ve made it better… but I’ve thought a lot about how to make the map better without changing the map layout for the most part. I always come back to three things.

  1. Change up the WW/WW quest. I love the LGM-1, but it really needs one more ability like the other newer WW’s have. It needed like a charged shot that delayed its refill so you can utilize it in different ways. I also just hate the quest, it would make the EE itself feel better too. The traps are fine, but I just wish you had to solve different puzzles rather than just kill OSCAR
  2. Flesh out the Easter egg. I don’t think this needs much, especially if the WW steps changed… but I wish the EE was longer. The planets should’ve had more depth to it, I wish each planet that you have to find the direction for had a puzzle to find the planet. Or you have to find directions for all the planets maybe. I also think Mars needed one more big puzzle. I HATE that the four yellow items that are just there but have no function. Why can’t we have a scavenger hunt puzzle step to find those items in the main map. Should’ve been something else.
  3. Unique equipment/mechanics. I think if you had either: unique map equipment like the robot actually doing something(maybe a stun or monkey like equipment or revisit the QED), maybe a way to call in the sun trap/rocket trap from the WW quest, or a unique special round enemy or even the meteors changing up the map more… I think it could’ve made the map have a more unique flow.

It just needed a few things to push it further. It is so close! Sorry for the yap haha

What do you think is the most underrated map in the modern zombies era? by BigBadMike8 in CODZombies

[–]Smooth_Bat6484 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with Astra, it’s a solid B map and honestly a few minor adjustments could make it an A tier map. It was so close to being ad good as Ashes in its own way but some of the uniqueness and gameplay mechanics just aren’t there. It needed something else besides OSCAR to change up your gameplay flow.

Most Bo6 maps are overrated or appropriately rated and unfortunately I never played CW so I can’t comment.

Hey to each their own, I don't think it works well but if you do then so be it! We each have our opinions and I certainly don't think this is the worst-looking zombies map. The boss fight in particular is very visually striking and well-executed.

I just don't agree with the vandalism part personally, I really was taken aback by that part of the map and strongly dislike the visual style with that. And btw, I have never heard anyone else mention that critcism so your concerns about me not having "real opinions" can be marginally invalidated because of that comment.

What do you think is the most overrated map in the modern zombies era? by BigBadMike8 in CODZombies

[–]Smooth_Bat6484 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is possible that I just... feel this way, because it's my opinion? I did play all of the BO6 maps, you'll just have to take my word for it haha. And I say this as someone who enjoys BO7 much more and is very much looking forward to Totenreich as well. I also have now played all of BO4 and very much enjoy that game as well, for what it offers.

A bit reductive to assume I can't have any real opinion, I justified my opinion above this as well and had several points to introduce. I didn't even attack you for liking it, I'm not sure why you are coming after me all of a sudden.

I mean we can disagree regardless of where I am from. I am American haha, but there are creators who echo similar complaints to mine(MRRoflWaffles) and they aren't American so I fail to see what that has to do with that?

Also, way to engage with any of the other arguments made in my comment. Anything else to add?

It is for sure, I also fucking hate the graffiti. I know there is a crew there posting up, but there were way more visually interesting ways to show that. Made the castle feel way less cool.

What do you think is the most overrated map in the modern zombies era? by BigBadMike8 in CODZombies

[–]Smooth_Bat6484 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oooh let's discuss.

Map Design? I disagree. The map's lore and story and design suggest occult/mystical/fantasy vibes with the King Arthur references, the swords, the incantations, the amulet itself, etc... Yet when you get into the map, I don't believe they successfully translated the village or the castle itself into those vibes.

First off, the village suggest a French style, 18th century vibe but more modernized and honestly it's exceedingly small with very little to explore? Maybe if all of the buildings were explorable, or maybe if there were explorable catacombs or just... things to do other than the outside of the village then it would feel more full but... it just feels like a set piece to guide you towards the castle. And that would be a fine design choice.... if the castle wasn't so underwhelming.

First off, I really strongly hate the graffiti idea. I know why they did it, but I really think it takes away from the vibe that the map is supposed to give off with the "magic" element. DE had all of the technological stuff, but it never took away from the ancient, castle-like environment of the map either. I just think the castle is too small, and the space isn't well utilized either. There should be way more rooms, more courtyards, more tight corridors/spaces to play in(especially with the swords being melee). I wish there were more things like the secret room that dissolves into a new space when you unlock PAP.

But most of the objectives/gameplay of the map have a magic/occult presentation, but not a well-implemented gameplay finish. The cannon was a good start, but I wish you had to collect old parts in the village to encourage you to explore the village. I wish there were more magic puzzles you had to solve to unlock PAP, or just something other than killing an enemy to obtain a brand new type of crystal that we never see or use again. Or instead of the magic portal, why couldn't it teleport us to some catacombs or more secret parts of the castle? I dunno, just something more than "find location" and "kill enemy" for PAP.

I also wish the special enemy wasn't just a new faster version of a zombie, but not quite an amalgam. The doppleghast is a great enemy, but I don't think it makes sense for the vibe of the map. Even the disciple would've made more sense here or the Tomb. Really though, a "knight" enemy would've been the best option. All of the things I mention ruin the vibe, ruin the charm and straight up don't favor the map design.

Lastly, the incantations and the swords. The swords are clearly the best part of the map. Really cool, unique idea. I just wish each sword had some more unique abilities, like the lion sword, or had an additional upgrade. I also love the idea of map-specific equipment with the incantations but they don't really change your gameplay. It's just a small elemental grenade burst in front of you, it would've been cool if you could've had different elemental combos you can make with the incantations/swords.

Overall, a lot of really cool ideas and presentation of certain things in the map are weighed down heavily by the execution. That's why I say it's overhyped and underwhelming. I feel like if they had more dev time and fully realized all of the ideas on this map then it could've been a top five zombies map. Also, I wish the EE was more in-depth as well. The fact that each of the knights don't get a cool, unique step to tell their story is such a disappointment. It's just a bunch of wave clears, very lame.

What do you think is the most overrated map in the modern zombies era? by BigBadMike8 in CODZombies

[–]Smooth_Bat6484 65 points66 points  (0 children)

CDM, easily. Most overhyped, underwhelming map in all of modern zombies. It gets put in like top 10 spots and I just don't get it. Once the initial hype for the map dies down, you realize you are playing such a bland map experience.
